Any Brake Dust remedies?

The new Benz is just a week old, and the brake dust is obvious after just one drive. My SL has AMG wheels and they are MUCH easier to clean than these wheels that come with the Sport Package.
This car is Black on Black with Black Bird's Eye Maple. It's tough to keep clean, but I just love the way it looks.
Just looking for some creative cleaning ideas for the wheels.

Thanks, Stan

Get the P21S gel concentrate. If you use it regularly, you can just spray it on and hose off after letting it sit. A little water pressure usually makes it work better, obviously, and the longer you go in between cleanings will increase the scrubbing you need to do.

I take a different approach. I remove my wheels. Clean thorougly and then use paint cleaner when dry. Then wax with Rejex. After that, I never use any wheel cleaner of any kind. I just wash the wheels the same as I do the paint. That way, the wax stays on longer, and helps resist dust buildup.

I agree with Spilok that the brake dust is significant, and noticeable after as little as 30 miles of driving. Is there any other type of brake pad, such as PBR, that can be used in place of the OEM pads? I've had great luck with PBR (formerly Repco) on BMWs -- virtually no brake dust.

You can buy pads that dust less, but they won't have equal performance (they won't be better).

Learning to live with the dust is part of learning to be a Mercedes (or BMW) owner.

Yes, I know Consumer Reports considers this a quality defect.

I replaced the OEM pads on my wifes BMW with Axxis pads (forget which model). The Axxis pads were nearly dustless - a huge improvement, with only a minor penalty paid in braking performance. That penalty is slightly diminished initial bite when the brakes are applied. Aside from that I found no other brake performance degradation. The pedal wasn't soft, they didn't fade, they didn't make noise, and they obviously generate enough friction to trigger the ABS at low/any speeds.

I'm a believer. I'll trade the small difference in initial bite for vastly decreased brake dust accumulation - right until someone can provide proof that the OEM pads reduce stopping distance over after market pads.

The P21S Gel sounds like a great product. I'm going to order it from Amazon.com

RE: Cleaning Sport Package Wheels

I also found the Sport Package wheels that came with my 07 to be very difficult to keep clean.

I tried all my cleaning tricks, but finally gave up and found a new car take off set of 07 18" CLS 5 spoke wheels last November. They are very easy to clean, look totally at home on the E, and really do the car justice visually.

Something to consider.

Porterfield pads seem to have little to no break dust.

Last time I looked they did not have a complete set for an 07; only front (or perhaps only rear, I forget which)

07 E350 4Matic / Sport with P1
I bought these at Tire Rack for my winter wheel set, and just took them off for the Sport Pkg set: Spring/Summer (the ones that are so hard to clean). I'm wishing that this style had come as the factory wheels!

Granted, they aren't MBz...or for that matter: not made in Germany, but for the money (and looks) they're excellent.

[QUOTE=lkchris;2786114]Learning to live with the dust is part of learning to be a Mercedes (or BMW) owner.QUOTE]

I owned several BMWs with no brake dust. The key is to replace the brake pads with PBR (formerly Repco). They produce no dust or squeel, and brake as well as the OEMs. If you have a BMW, I would recommend them. I don't see that they're available for MB, though.

I found these Axxis ceramic pads for the front of an E350 for $118 per set. The rears seem to dust very little, so I might just swap out the fronts.
