Fuel for thought
I just returned from a 700 mile trip and rans some actual numbers on fuel consumption as opposed to the dash display. Our 2003 320 delivered 31 mpg
(248 miles 8.0 gallons ) VS 31.6 dash indicated using 93 octane. Conditions were optimal, flat ground, 75mph steady interstate cruising, A-C on and weather mid 80's. I realize this could be off slightly due to the small amount of fuel added. Nevertheless, I will take that kind of performance anytime.
For those of you considering a two wheel alternative to save money
1999 Honda CBR1100 XX . FI with approx 130 RWHP.
Approx fuel consumption with 800 pound machine and rider - 33 MPG.
Can easily drop into the high 20's when pushed.
As much as I enjoy riding, I have to admit that the car has way too many attributes to consider motorcycling anything more than recreation.

Bone stock with 16'' Michelin greenies. They look like they will retire at 40-45K. I was thinking about Bridgestone Potenzas as I got 75K out of them on a similar vehicle but if the Michs truly are a factor in rolling resistance, I will rethink that choice. The 30psi recommended pressure must not be too far off the mark as they are wearing evenly and certainly delivering the mpg.

plenty of posts talking about the phenomenal mpg the E-Class obtains. Its just another thing about MB I suppose. Even us V8's are achieving 26+ mpg. Its just incredible.

These are really fuel efficient cars. My mothers S550 gets around 30mpg on long drives at about 70mph. The E should hit that figure easily. Hell even my old 2001 E320 had acheive 30+ a few times on long flat drives.
