Ideas? Poor voice quality w/MB factory phone kit
When I put my face a few inches away from the factory mic, people on the other end say it sounds better, but still very muffled.
The system was retrofitted by MBenzNL when Steve was in town recently. It's the complete kit except for the Linear Compensator.
2 questions:
1) Is this normal for phone MB systems installed by the factory?
2) Can the attenuation of the mic be turned up?
Thank you!

I believe the early US BT adapters had problems like this. I believe AWS also had instructions on setting the microphone volume up/down but this did not work for Euro devices and I don't remember the necessary button sequence.
Which phone are you using, another phone could make a difference too.

I just discovered the 0000#1# code to turn up the mic volume by dialing that number a dozen times. On the receiving end the my voice is now clearer, but still muffled. My test was with the car parked and no AC to avoid any background noise.
The BT device B6 787 5877. It has a set of code #'s; HW:1906 and SW:5106.
My phone is an iPhone. The iPhone's volume is set to maximum. The whole system works terrific, just the mic attuentation is low, even after the using the 0000#1# code about 10 times.
Thank you, your insights are really appreciated!

MB should be embarrassed. Somehow I cannot believe they shipped who knows how many e-classes with a phone system that sounds like this.
It's down right irrating for the poor person on the receiving end to have to listen too.
I test drove a new C300 and the phone sounded great for a couple of people who have heard my e320 system.
I'm still hopeful there's a configuration error or update that will fix it.

I just returned from the dealership and they are puzzled.
1) They hooked up the car to SDS and the software seems current.
2) The service advisor paired his own phone and the problem persisted.
3) They had never seen the puck I bought from Steve B6 787 5877 (pic attached). They tried the puck they sell B6 787 5878 (the one that looks like an SLR engine), and could only hear one side of the conversation - the person outside the car.
BTW, the Bluetooth signal strength shows 5 bars on the lower right side on the COMMAND screen. The dealership wants the car for about 4 hours to try and diagnose the issue. Ouch, cost wise!
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Shouldn't you ask Steve before letting your dealer look at the car. If it has Euro parts, they might through those away and put US parts in, for nothing.

I email Steve this morning to see if he could comment on this thread as well with any thoughts he might have.

the older 211s have a microphone array with 4 mics at the bottom of the mirror - mercedes changed that in 2007 for microphone arrays with only 2 mics at the top of the mirror...one of the reasons for that change was what is described here.
The installed MHI module (US spec) is new and so was the BT cradle...the small black BT cradle is the same as the SLR looking one...same internals - different housing (US= SLR, europe= black) and same pairing code.
Just mail me and we will set something up rather then wasting money at a dealership (we DO offer aftersales service).
greetingz,
