Will the 08 Sports Pack wheels fit my 06 E350 (225s on 16" Stock) ?

I absolutely love the 10 spoke sports pack wheels and would like to put them on my car which came with 225 on 16" ... I also heard that going wider on tyre size than specified causes warranty issues for suspension and the steering pump is not meant to steer the wider tyres... I believe the sports pack wheels are 245 front 265 rear ..... would these widths have enough clearance ? what kind of potential issues can I run into ? .... Is it worth all the hassle ? Is there anyone who's done that ?
Thanks folks

08 sport wheels: Front = 245 R40 18, Rear: 265 R35 18
my 06 stock wheels = 225 R55 16

Many people have done it, you will need to run your vin to check the suspension version. They may be a direct fit, or you may need to make change a bump/stop bushing.

Uh oh... I went with a staggered set of stock E55 dbl spokes to replace my stock 235/45/17 on my 03' 320 sport and Ive warranty to 100K to March 2011.

If the staggered set up compromises my warranty I will have to shop around and go back to the 17" 235/45/17 set up all around

Would you happen to have the English/US link so that I may validate this?

If your 320 has the sport suspension it is already equipped for those wheels, you are golden.

Thanks Untertürkheim! Whew...I think...

So, I was looking at a copy of my VMI to look for any callout with regards to specific "sport suspension" . The only remote "sport" or possible suspension enhnancement references found were:

Opt# Desc.
---- -------
633 5 spoke 17" lt alloy wheels

772 AMG bodystyling ( I take this is more cosmetic, ie. "sport" badge on sid molding, subtle flare to side skirts, black birdseye wood trim, white instrument dials, ?)

489 Airmatic DC

By virtue the car having the 17" wheel option from the factorr, would this default to the car having been built with a sport suspension?

Thanks for the advise!

Oh wow, I assumed that the 320 would not have airmatic. What the doc says is that your need to have airmatic or sport suspension, since you have airmatic, the better of the two, you are even better off.

Also, since the car was built with 17" wheels, it has to be equipped properly from the factory.

Which bump stop is it that has to be changed? One in the strut?

I looked at the suspension while the car was on the ground and don't see why a change would be necessitated. I'm also not finding parts for the strut bump stop (stopper) that differentiate based on sport/airmatic/standard suspension.

I do note that the ball joint for the upper control arm rides suspiciously close to the wheel, so a tire diameter issue may be suspect but a 245/40-18 tire is actually shorter in O.D. than a 225/55-18. Would the more aggressive body roll associated with a 18" tire under hard cornering suggest this bolt may contact the tire if the suspension travel were not decreased, but I doubt this is the issue. I could only see major issue if the car were to completely bottom out (force due to perhaps jumping the car) but again, this issue would be more prevalent with the factory wheel (taller) than with the aftermarket wheel.

...so to sum it all up, I don't get it.

I believe it is the strut bushing.
You need to run your VIN to see which suspension codes you have.
If you look at the document
http://www.mercedes-benz.de/content/...ne_Typ_211.pdf
you can see two different part numbers based on the original suspension.

Thumbs down

I just saw the rear tyres and their distance from the mud-guard .... doesn't seem like there enough space for a tyre 4 sizes wider ??? Anyone who's done this without modifying any body parts ??

thanks

Keep in mind that the wider/larger wheels have different offsets. As long as you follow those factory documents you will have no issues.

So let me rephrase the question .... Can I put 08 Sport wheels on my car or not which originally came with 225 55 16 ?

I will be putting 18s on my car tomorrow or friday, I'll let you know how it turns out. I'll do some hard braking and pitch it through some turns and see if I can get the front tires to rub.

245/40-18 has less overall diameter than 225/55-16 but the sidewalls won't mushroom as much under heavy load either, so there is potential that under full force the 245/40-18 tire is effectively taller. When I find out, I'll let you know.

The summary of the article Untertürkheim posted (and I definitely thank him for that!) basically says we'll need to change the bump stop inside our struts to limit the suspension travel. If you plan on upgrading shocks/springs later, this is not a major issue.

By any chance are you located in the bay area, CA?

I'm planning to go staggered
245 front
275 rear

Will these fit my car ? ... Anyone observed steering becoming heavy or tire touching the mud guards ?

thanks all

You should keep all four the same on a 4matic.
