2005 E320 AMG Sport Package
What's with Mercedes headlights?
I have a 2005 E320 Sport with 70k miles. The car rolled out the door at $60,000. Why am I already getting the scaling on the headlight covers?
The dealer wants $120 a light to polish it or I go to the detail guy after hours and slip him $10 to polish them, if he will.
Does anyone have any info if this problem is covered under warranty? It seems to me that of a car of this caliber, and cost, would have headlight covers that would last at least as long as a Honda, Hyundai, or Toyota.

I thought cars with P2/Bi-Xenons had glass lenses instead of the standard plastic.

What's the best way to get them cleaned if they do get sun damaged/cloudy? I assume you've got to take them out and scrub them from the inside?

Your going to polish the outside. They sale a kit that with a little elbow grease they are 100% clear again. I used on the wife's VW, 3 types of fine sandpaper that you use with a solution, a liquid to clean all the dust and residue off and a sealant to seal the lense, did it about a year ago still holding up, she noticed much better light output. My other 2 cars are in the garage home and at work so its not an issue...![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Not sure of the brand (will check this evening), but it took about 3-5 minutes of rubbing with each grade of sandpaper to get the results i was looking for depending how bad the lenses are. In my case they had a very faint biege color almost like they were oversprayed, i thought it was morning dew until i wiped them off, seems like it happened over night.

For an optimum result, you'd apply with machine.
Otherwise, if you do a really good job by hand, it will impress you for a while.
BTW: you can find platx in lots of stores.
