You know so far I haven't gotten messed with, but I've only had the Car a couple months or so. Thing is, based on the experience I had with my S500 and Bev Hills PD, when I got pulled over for being on my Phone, they thought they were gonna get me for so much more stuff, searched my car, etc. etc. when they found out I was totally clean except for the Tints, they ended up letting me go.
I see Cops all the time here, and fortunatly so far with me E I haven't been messed with.

There's no end to HP ... If you're gettin an E500 coz u need more HP ... get the E55 (you can find one for high 30s same body style) .... or if $$ is not an issue, get a 12 cyl Bentley continental ... it'll over run your e500 in reverse gear!
Kiddin folks
The other day I was head to head with 535xi and almost killed him if the traffic didnt block ahead (our E350s are a totally different animal in Sport mode ) ... but I have to agree an E320 would have been killed big time! ... I'd call 350 a good compromise between mpg and HP ... 500 is more inclined towards HP & you see those MPGs in the early teens if you drive in downtowns

Agree, I get **** gas mileage with the CL500 because it's never driven on the freeway pretty much just on streets. Idk where these guys are getting those numbers. I get usually 16-17 avg. If I really stay off the pedal 19. When I like to take her for fun, get like 14. Maybe the 7 spd v. 5 spd has something to do with it (cause mine is 02, so has 5 spd., which I like better).
Lol, I feel like I'm getting picked on with the 320 stuff , jk. Ya, I test drove a 350 once. It was an 07 with AMG sport package (weird, they didn't even have that option for 07, but it was like a May build and was the last 07 at Calabasas, this was in late-July of 07. I know it wasn't a Sacks edition). The really difference I think was at the lower end range, the engine also sounded a little deeper. Best bet all around would be to go with the 350. I just hope the W212 has the 300 hp spec. like the 09 SLK350's do. Would be great for the C-class too, I guess their waiting for the facelift to put that one in. Better for competition with BMW. E550's and 550i's are so rare, and the fact that the V6s can pump out so much more now, that I wouldn't be suprised if they did not bring them to the U.S. anymore with the new E and 5 series models.

I told my friend the other day Mercedes is better than BMW and Audi (you know that whole war). I told him how BMW and Audi (especially BMW) is all just marketing fluff. They brag about little things they have on their cars when on the other Benzes have had the same thing for a couple of years before them and may be standard on the Benz too. Like Servotronic steering. If I remember correctly, Benzes (I think besides the C-class, or maybe that was on the W203 only not W204) have this standard. It's also a good feature for adding bigger rims. Benz keeps quiet about their technology IMO for a reason. No offense to any Audi or BMW guys.

I don't know its all "marketing fluff" Those car makes have an awfullly large amount of "street cred". Marketing only gets you so far. If they were crap, they'd have no resale demand.

But the majority of BMW owners don't know enough to take advantage of the handling of BMWs, nor drive them hard, and so the cars tend to get marketed as something else. I've always personally recognized BMW as sports driving and Mercedes as comfort driving.
All that said, for a Euro comfort car I'm impressed so far with Mercedes. And I'm pretty close to maybe buying a new E350 this week..... see my last two posts at the bottom of this page: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/263338-mb-tex-only-my09-e350.html

All I have to say I have a lot respect for Benzes and no respect for people who talk crap about them when they've never even driven one.

Got 26.4 going to pick my son up at the airport and 29.1 on the way home for an average of 27.8 which I though was pretty good for an E350 4matic. At the end of the 230 mile trip my average mpg for the last 2600 miles is 23.1 mpg which I also think is pretty good. These numbers are all based on the OBC which we all know is optimistic.

you must've reset the trip computer in the middle of the highway .... Its more like an exponential curve averaging i.e. the samples are less initially so it will average more rapidly but as samples increase with time it makes lesser and lesser difference on average ... just like the GPA in college ... if you hit a 4.0 in the early semesters, it wont go under 3.5 even if you get a 2.0 in the later semesters.... dont know if I explained it well
so if you reset in the middle of the highway, u're initial samples will average high 20s and that helps with overall 'great-looking' mpg numbers ..... I never reset my trip computer in the middle of a journey to get an accurate reading ... it should be from starting point (home) to the destination point which would include idling / warm-up etc ... reasons why I never got to see 30 mpgs on my odo...

I haven't reset the long term OBC it shows 23.1 mpg for the last 3300 miles at and avg speed of 29 mph.

Is someone here familiar with the formula of how our Benz's calculate the mpg and average speed?
When I see VW's with thei MFD and that display shows updated information every few seconds and the Benz becomes more sluggish the longer you drive then I don't believe that the data displayed is as accurate as it should be.
