Question 08 W211 Making Weird Electronic Noises While Off

Can't quite describe the sound but it is some type of electronic sounding whine or something. Can't figure out where it comes from. It lasts about 3 seconds. I don't see any sort of pattern has anyone experienced this before? Anyone know what it is? I'll bring it to the dealership soon but its always smart 2 check w/ you guys b4 I see what kind of story they want to tell me about it. Thanks guys.

its perfectly normal. sounds like the air injection pump or other electronics in the engine bay at work.

Mine does that, too. A few when you first turn if off, then more about 2minutes later.

After the car sits hot (from driving) and you unlock it (say an hour later), the front suspension drops. I think the air shocks pump up from the latent heat of the engine (maybe 1/3 to 1/2"). It seems weird, but as long as the SBC brakes work, I'm OK

I have experienced this numerous times.

I have the same 'electronic' noises from under the hood too. I thought it was the fans turning out or sometime of water pump for something

So, would we say this is a problem or normal Mercedes behavior? Its awfully loud someone came inside to tell me the car was doing it the other day. Also, this is a 4matic 350 I don't have air ride on it.

take it in, but I think its normal. Even though you don't have SBC brakes, it might be the air injection pump. Never hurts to take it in for the latest software and let them give it a good looking over.

I would say its normal. I've heard come from other friends cars (320, 350 500's & 55 and 63's). I think it actually sounds cool

Sorry to ressurect, but its better than taking up new space. This electronic noise I'm hearing after engine cut off is constant and strange. It happens in intervals when the engine is off, but it is consistant as it happens every time the car is shut off. It is a high pitched whine, electronic sounding and I've gotten it down to the front of the engine bay area on the drivers side. I cannot figure out what the hell is making this noise as the longer you listen to it the less you can figure out where it is comming from. It is obnoxious to say the least. I am worried at this point that the dealer will tell me to go F myself because by the time I can get it looked at I'm going to have an MTEC kit installed and I've got puddle lights wired up as well as different fog lights so I'm thinking they are going to try to blame it on one of those non-oem electrical components. I know it isn't the fault of any of those parts because it has been doing this since before any of those parts were installed on the car. I tried to record the sound on video but it didn't come out very well. This is an 08 E350 4Matic. Is anyone else experienicing this? The sound, while it goes and stops does not actually stop happening until the car is switched back on. That can't be normal. I know cars make sounds after shutoff, I know my CL does, but just not like this. I have no check engine lights, malfunctions or anything like that. No codes either. I feel like they will blame it on aftermarket or dismiss the issues. I need some help guys! Any similar symptoms? What can I do that might help you guys in solving my problem? Is there anything else I can tell you? Thanks alot guys

Weird Nosies

I have owned a 2005 E500 4 Matic, 2006 E500 4matic, 2007 E550, and a 2007E550 4Matic. They all make the same weird noises. The suspension lets air out 30-60 minutes after sut off, if you sit in the car, while its off you can hear air being released from all four corners of the cabin. My dealer tells me they are seat sensors, air bag sensors, door sensors, suspension, and belive it or not, brakes too. All of that said none of my four vehicles over the past four years have had any issues as a result. I did have a bad fuel pump that never shut off in my 2005, but once that was replaced, there were no issues. I aggree its weird, I didnt like the explanation I got, but it seems to make sense...... I guess.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your response. The only problem different from yours that I see is that this car does not have any sort of airmatic or ABC system. Additionally I know as I have other mercedes as well that the cars do make some strange noises after cutting the engine, like the brakes, seat sensors and so forth. But this sound, I swear it just isn't right. I wish I could record it in a way that people could hear it as I do. I will certiantly try to but I can't imagine this is normal. Who knows though, maybe your right.... I'll find out the 20th or so when the car goes in for service.
