My car has 44k miles on it & I noticed oil level goin down after 1500 miles of oil change (I got the car at 41k so dont kniow any past history of oil consumption) .... Took it in for service & guess what ---------> they told me a v minor leak from the last valve seal .... they said they fixed it but I guess the question is ... SHOULD I GET RID OF THE CAR ?
44k AND AN OIL LEAK, BEFORE 50k I NEED TO BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY ($3500), WOULD IT BE WISE TO TRADE IT IN, PUT 5 GRAND ON TOP AND GET ONE WITH LOWER MILES (20ish) CPOed AN '07 ???
THOUGHTS ?
If I buy the extended Warr, I'd wanna drive it for another 3 yrs ....... jeez I'm hating all this
--------- ------------- ------------ ----------- ------------ -------
Another question: How come there's no sign of Oil in the garage ? I understand when the car is turned off the oil would never get to the valves, but a running engine wd pump oil up & leak from the valve seal down, It should still drip on the floor

With that said, if a valve seal was the problem, the car would burn the oil, not leak it. Did it smoke at startup after sitting a few days?

i thinking it was a valve cover gasket leak- my 03 with similiar miles has a small leak on the passenger side gasket- not enough to hit the ground, but i notice it when i pull the covers off the motor. It really is no concern- If they fixed it you should be fine.

03 E500 and Corvette
For 0ur 03 I experienced the same as you. For what we paid for the E500 and the number of service / warranty repairs in 80,000 miles of driving my Lincoln was much better and spent only 10% of the time for warranty the E500 has. I would buy (and did buy) the extended warranty. Your ball joints and air/shocks will probably fail before 100000 miles and the shocks are about $1100 each not to mention the failure of ball joints around 70,000 miles. Granted yours is newer and I am sure by what the sales people in the show room

So if you plan to keep the car I would buy the extended warranty and consider it just a Mercedes Tax.

be careful with the aftermarket warranties though- i was denied a claim when my air strut went out- very few warranties will cover struts/shocks as they are considered "wear items"-
and yes i bought the platinum warranty from Mercury- considered one of the best "aftermarket" warranties- i cancelled the policy shortly after they denied my claim. Get a MB warranty if you can.

You are overreacting a bit. Your problem was very minor. If you want a new or newer car buy it but not because you had a minor oil leak. As for the extended warranty I always go it alone and it has always been more cost effective for me.

tell me all these issues are totally corrected.

Another reason for trading in was the depreciation rate on our cars ... Over 50k miles, out of warranty, these things would be lying around for 15 grand, also to the fact that the new E will be out, I believe instead of paying 4 grand on warranty, just trade in put 5 ~ 6k on top, get an 07 with a lower mileage, CPOed ... what do you think ?

IMHO, hedge out wait until next fall (w212 intro) and pick up a new '09 @ employee discount match (MSRP - 12.25%) plus eventual (inevitable) MBUSA to customer and dealer incentives, and negotiate a discounted extended warranty.
