Settings in SDS

Hi guys,

I have the chance of playing around with a chinese SDS system. Now there is a drop down box to select the car but I don't know what the correct setting would be:

AJ2003/0 MY2004 (Code 803+053)
AJ2003/X MY2004 (Code 804)
AJ2003/2 MY2004 (Code 804+054)
AJ2004/1 MY2005 (Code 805)
AJ2004/2 MY2005 (Code 805+055)
AJ2005/1 MY2006 (Code 806)
AJ2006/M MY2007 (Code 807)

Has someone a clue how to find out with VIN or a sticker on the car to find out which setting would be the correct one? The car we have hooked up to the system is a 2004 E320 build 01/04.

PM me your VIN. Are you playing with the cluster settings I assume, and it can't determine the correct one? I would guess yours would be a Code 804 going by the build date but best to check VIN to be sure.

The 80x is the year (804 is yours). Since the car is designed the year before, that is a "year of modification" that and sometimes multiple revisions in a single year. 053 is one 2004 revision, 054 is another, etc.

i.e. 2005 would be AJ2004 MY2005 Code 805 and if it was designed later in the 2005 model year it could be an 805+055.

I got the information from Polar Bear that the wording in SDS has been changed for certain settings. Now my question is, is there a newer DTB for the activation/enabling process for the Bluetooth Replacer?

BT Replacer Parts Number B 6 7 87 5855 I got!

I put it into my console, connected it. I connected SDS and did:

Control Units -> Information and Communication -> IC - Instrument Cluster -> Control Unit Adaptions -> AJ2003/X MY2004 (Code 804) -> Variant Coding -> Special Equipment -> Telephone/iPod = PRESENT

Then I hit F3 and then F5. Then I got an error message that one device (I can't recall the exact wording anymore) may not be coded and therefore it couldn't be version coded.

I went out of curiosity to step 3 of the DTB:
Control units / Information and communication / Audio, Video, Navigation and Telematics / CTEL / Control Unit Adaptations / Read coding & change if necessary / System Configuration / Set “Portable Cellular Phone” to “FITTED” / Hit F5 to carry out coding / Hit F3 to transfer coding to module / Hit F2 / Select “Yes” to restart ring

But wording in SDS has been changed. You can go through the menu until you come to "Read coding & change if necessary" and after that there is no such thing as "System Configuration". I didn't do anything there b/c the first step didn't work already.

So the question now is, per Polar Bear (who tried to help me out here via eMail) said I only need to get the IC version coded, but not the MOST ring with the second instruction that I just posted. In our sister forum people are talking about only to set this here with TeleAid....

This is so confusing! When I go back to the dealer I don't want to waste a lot of time and pay for it, that's why I'm seeking help with that so desperately since we all know that a lot of the mechanics never did that before and I like to help out with as much knowledge and information as possible.

All of your help is much much appreciated!

The 2 programming steps mentioned I have them from the pdf file:
VOICE ACTIVATED CELLULAR TELEPHONE INSTALLATION - P-I-82.70/290

Isn't it likely that the car needs the IC version coded too?

From what you said the COMAND is saying "Please Insert Phone" so it appears to be aware there is a phone system. When you go under Control Units and Information... and select the Tele Aid device, what options do you have there?

We need to determine what that error message was on the IC version coding. If you have a questionable multiplexer with flaky communications I would be concerned doing any version coding as it could brick the device you are trying to code.

I will give more infos this upcoming Saturday! When I turn on BT on my phone, the blue BT puck LED turns solid blue and my phone shows the hands free symbol on the display. Now all I see if I can change TeleAid according to the screenshot.

Guys,

I just hooked the SDS up again and took some screenshots for you. You might know something. The phone sees the BT Replacer and its blue light is lit up.

Well, on one of the screens it says R171 (SLK), not W211. Not sure if that has any bearing...

Nope, I just took the screen shot before I changed it to W211. Nothing different. But I got the tip that it might be the sim. mode (box on the very top)!

So I made some partial progress but still not there!

The error message from screen shot 1 comes from the fact that several settings weren't correctly read out and shown in the application. We figured it out and could write the code to the car but after a success message from SDS and being told from a MB mechanic to reset the MOST ring, all the old settings are shown again.

The setting from the last screen shot I changed to TeleAid USA CP Analgo and I actually got the screen to see which would enable the BT Replacer. I could write the code again but the setting would just not be stored.

Tuesday I will go to a certified MB shop and get it finally done. I hope they let me look over the mechanic's shoulder to see what he does.

I just wanna thank everyone who was involved in this mess and hopefully this string will help othes.

There is a shop in Chula Vista that is an independent MB service, incredibly nice guys, they programmed my BT at no charge, but I have done several services with them. I was in the car and saw the whole procedure done. The very first time I needed the SDS connected to erase a SRS code, they only charged me $35.

Funny,

that's where I'm going. they did Service F on my car as well 2 weeks ago!

Nice, Kathy told me it would not cost me more than 35 Dollars. So did you ask if you can watch them doing it? Did it look like they did that before or did it seam to you they did that before?

So,

I'm just back from the autohaus and the hooked up their SDS and confirmed that the programming done by myself was correct. But for some reason my COMAND still reads "Please Insert Telephone".

I'm clueless! They told me it probably has something to do b/c my car has analog TeleAid and it would require digital TeleAid. But I thought that is just not the case!

It works on other US cars with analog Tele-Aid, pretty strange that it does not work on your car.

...so - your programming was NOT correct...

stardiagnose menu's change a lot btw...having the phone menu in the IC (de)activated doesn't affect the functionality of the BT replacer...which only leaves you with the teleaid module ptogramming that is causing the problems.

greetingz,

Mack, Diesel, Steve K: any update on this?

I have the exact same issue. Cartronics unit will not pair (sees phone ok), and no phone functions on COMAND work (no signal bars, etc). COMAND & IC still show "insert phone".

OBTW, I'm in UK, with a US-Spec car, and teleaid is not activated. I don't know if STAR programming for "phone fitted" is possible with TELEAID deactivated.

I'd love some add'l info! Service tech very helpful, but unable to find a version code anywhere to add. As said above, teleaid menu not available due to being deactivated. M/B tech tells me that it can't be activated here in UK.

Thanks,

Connor

Yes it is possible to have teleaid disabled (makes sense if you don't have a valid subscription) and have the phone system activated.
