I believe the old digital system is more analog than the older W211 analog one is. Analog type of user interface is not bad at all but in this case I guess people refer to the digital display mostly.
Anyway, the old auto AC is only an option for cars like W210, W140, I guess many others while the standard AC is much more limited by functionality in these cars, not only because of a missing digital temp display.

After all, as long as one is capable of performing the assigned tasks, it does not matter how the device is implemented. Microcontrollers are often used to achieve cost savings too, not only enhanced performance or features. Personally I admire most those old engine parts where things like thermal compensation are done with mechanical structures.

I like the charcoal feature too on the CL. *******g little cost cutting that kills what MB is really supposed stands for... Over Engineering. That's what an MB is supposed to be, over-engineered. That's the way we want them
. *Sigh, I miss my W140
Murman, the V6's in the US from 03-06 had analog display and not true dual zone but just dual tempreture. The 07+ V6's are the same as the 03-06 except it has a digital display but is still not the same as the one's on the V8's, which are 4-zone as well besides being true dual zone.

I actually kind of don't mind the A/C setup on the pre-07's in comparison with the digital display on the '07+ V6's, I guess it's one of those things where I wouldn't mind having digital, but not having it doesn't really bum me out. I wasn't a big fan of the display graphics too much on the digital ones also, kind of plain.

Bullseye, right on target. The charcoal is like the recirculation button to keep outside air out, but for more "smelly" conditions.
Also, is the charcoal feature the one where you press the recirculation button down and it closes all the windows, moonroof, etc., then opens them back to their exact positions when you let go? If so, did they discontinue that feature after a certain year?
