Dealer wants to buy my car. What's really going on?
Got a letter from the dealership that sold me my car. Letter says that they have a shortage of 04 E320s, and that they want to buy mine. Conveniently they have 2.4% APR financing available for new cars.
Safe to assume this is simply a ploy to spur new car sales?

i've received similar messages in the past as well...trust your instinct.
fyi, i'm seeing 05 E500's with AMG package going for $20k and 06's going for $24k at the retail level. therefore, you can adjust your expectations accordingly for 1 yr older car and with 6 cylinder vs. V8.
my gut feel - i think the dealer will likely lowball you with $10-12k offer.

Its a Buyer's Market for almost everything right now, particularly cars. No dealer is moving any product right now, so if you've got the cash or credit score you're good to go! Believe me there's no shortage of used/off lease product on dealers lots right now.
