Selling COMMAND, installing 2.5
Will keep you posted on this no sound case - Will go there and stay there to answer to all those questions -
In the mean time any ideas more than welcome
Rgds
IF you here audible noise from the speaker that would mean that the COMAND is outputing sound.
CHECK if cd will play.
Also if the radio is NEW you will have to download map and nav software. This is done will a MB DVD set.
MB has a factory in VN and for W211 they assemble two lines: E200K and E280, they sale E200k for 86K and E280 for 113k, that for you to imagine how expensive are the car in VN (mostly because of exaggerating tax).
Map of Vietnam is still not available for car navigation. However, there are locally developed GPS devices that can use the car LCD to display the map. I am waiting to receive my new NTG2.5 comand and hope that Vn map will be available after I have it installed.
cheers

Let me report back to all of you with thanks to all those who have taken the time and effort to help.
Retrofit finished successfully.
Finally I did not kill the MB mechanic - (although as I suspected he was the cause of all my trouble - He wouldn't connect the black antenna fakra to the NTG unit beacause colours did not fit --antenna on the NTG2.5 is a twin white fakra !!). And as I found out he hadn't used the Kabeldaviko adapter which I had provided to him.
So I went back to the dealership - stayed there all the time - asked him to use the antenna adapter and guess what ??? it did work !!!!
As mentioned earlier It seems MB mechanics can only connect harnesses of the same colors --and this they do for 58 Euros+VAT per hour. -No brains and the typical answer "upgrade to NTG2.5 not supported by Mercedes- So we shouldn't really be trying to do it at all - We did a favour to you !!" - Typical MB excuse !!!
So in the end, this retrofit (on a W211 with Audio20CD) was (or atleast should have been) quite a straightforward upgrade
All you need is a good NTG2.5 unit and the harness set from Kabeldaviko and it should not take more than 2 hours.
Unit is Linguatronic capable but you would need some extra hardware in the steering column .

P.S. I am trying to find now a solution for using the pre-installed phone - I do no fancy using Bluetooth on new unit.

I find peace reading your news as well since I already ordered the NTG2.5 and the adapter set from KabelDavico but am still not sure the upgrade would be smooth. I will appreciate very much if you can show more details of the installation and set up.
Hope I can enjoy the NTG2.5 soon like you.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
i applaud you
One question though:
the Radio antenna!! where is in the w211 with Audio50? how i can power it up? what cables should i use to reroute the lead?? how is powered with the current audio50 setup?
any help is appreciated !!

What about the navi menu at the cluster?
The MB guy did not activate the phone before the swap and I think he tried to work on the comand instead of instrument cluster. I saw him trying to update software on the comand. It took almost an hour and now my comand lost its navigation data and I don't see the option to register music any more. I think he erased the data in the internal HDD and replaced with something else. Maybe I will need to restore the original disk with the register music option. Is there anyway to copy the original HDD?

If you try to find a "puck with tail" thread from W211 or audio & electronics, you should find instructions on the IC menu version coding.

If I know the part no. of the current telematics disk for the Comand 2009 it would be much easier to talk with my Star Service.
Just use the Kabeldaviko set of cables for the conversion
http://www.kabeldaviko.de/w211-219_comm-2-5.html
Site is in German but Frank will answer in English and is a very helpfull guy.
The only problem I can see is having to run the cabling from front to back
Otherwise a plug and play solution !

I bought the HK NGT amp for a w211-----try MBenzNL for the part----see your dealer for the connectors (you will need serveral), unless that company makes a harness to convert to the correct HK harnesses.....
Also know that the NGT system used 2 seperate amps, one for the center/front/rear/surround and another for the sub.
Good luck with the install!!

Is there a part number for the connector? I wuold like to buy some.
