Filter? Wipers? Small qns/remarks

Hello all -

My E lets in a fair amount of dust into the cabin - is the activated charcoal filter the same as the dust micro-filter (if present; am assuming), or are they separate?

Wipers: In salt (Toronto), the left wiper leaves a trail of uncleaned window JUST where I look. ANyone else experience that too?

Door opener: Right near the CN tower it does not work. As a radio amateur I know that that area has a LOT of radio interference; some very strong UHF signals. This is the likely cause.

Drive electronics: excellent - on our icy roads it's saved me around a few brisk but slippery corners!!

I agree with you about the wipers.

In many ways I miss the single wiper my 2000 E had, as I notice that the passanger side takes sometime to clear the trail left by the drivers side wiper, especially when using the washer jets.

filters

There are two air filters for the cabin. The first one gets out the big chunks and the next is the activated charcoal.

There is a lot of dust in the air and this will settle down in the car over time. It depends on how much the windows are left open or also getting in and out of the car will get the dusty air in.

03 E320, sport package, moon roof, sound upgrade, brilliant silver, charcoal leather, heated seats..
My o1 e320 had a button to turn the charcoal filter on and off. the 03 e320 has no button or indicator of a charcoal filter. does that mean there is no charcoal filter in the 03 e320 model? I do not recall that it was an option.

The E320 does not have the activated charcoal filter, which is button-controlled and also includes automatic smog sensing. It's standard on the 4-Zone climate control fitted to the 500 and optional on the 320. The 320 standard system just has the front-end filtering.

Dust

I have not experienced any dust problems at all. However, I have the charcoal filter engaged all of the time. Nonetheless, I would think the micron filter, and not the charcoal filter, would catch the vast majority of dust.

Maybe I'll turn off the charcoal filter for a few days to see if it really makes a difference with respect to dust.

That's one of the reasons why I chose the optional Thermatronic A/C system.
