CDI Glow plugs not covered under warranty

My 2005 CDI is MB Certified. I have had a number of Glow plugs fail and replaced at NC by my dealer. Now at 75k miles another failed and my dealer says they are not covered as they are a wear item. $45 each.
1, Is this really true?
2, Are glow plugs an easy DIY?

Thanks

Read the FINE Print on the Star Mark CPO coverage

LOTS of Items are NOT Covered

I Would Look under the Emission Warranty ..Im Not sure what it is in your state
That Might be a option

1. Yes they are a wear item, no different then spark plugs needing to be replaced.

2. Space is a bit limited to get to the plugs but can be done by yourself yes. But like the previous OM606 engine that came before it the glow
plugs can get stuck and break in the head.

glow plugs

I wonder why my Glowplugs keeps failing? I bet 2 or 3 so far @ 75k miles. Tech said glow plugs actually stay on longer than you think even after started & running

I live in Chicago area car is garaged, not heated but above freezing all the time. Fuel purchased from a good retailer.

Wonder if the fault is intermitent? Thus trigering the "check engine light" ?

Dealer hit me with diagnosis charge even though I did not have them change the glowplug. So word to the wise "check engine light" may cost you even under warranty.

I needed one replaced and they replaced all 6 because they said there was a DTB stating that the failure of one would shorten the life of the others. They replaced them, but did not cover them under the ELW.

What booklet did you see this, and are you referring to the manufacturers warranty or CPO warranty?

Thats 80,000 or 5 years. And, thats on the new car warranty. Your Starmark warranty does not cover them. They are a normal wear item and need to be changed periodically. Just like light bulbs, brake pads and rotors and oil changes. Can't believe you are quibbling over a 45 dollar part with 75000 on your car.

Hmm, curious... When my wife's '08 ML320CDI went into the shop for the stereo mysteriously turning itself off and on, they blamed the Glow Plugs and replaced all 6 under warranty... Not sure how one is related to the other but that's what the repair ticket stated...
