MY2009 Service Questions

Hey everyone, happy new year!

My 2009 E350 has already hit 10,000 miles. As some of you might know, all MY 2009 MBs now have a 10K service interval instead of 13K.

There are also changes to the way the service is listed. There are now "required services" which are what is required to keep warranty coverage (or to satisfy lease requirements) and recommended service. As expected much of the recommended service is total BS. I have called several dealerships in the area and all don't seem to listen nor care about the difference. They all say that the A service is around $220 etc. and don't make a distinction between required and recommended.

Should I just bring the car in and insist that they only do the required service and to quote me a lower price for that?

Below are from the 2009 MY Maintenance Booklet showing both the required and recommended services:

Does the manual give you the information to reset the FSS after service? On my 2003 E I can reset after I do the work. Much of the service I do when possible as I have to drive 200 miles for service and it takes 2 days on each visit.

My lease contract doesn't mention any service condition and as I was told I can do service myself.

A procedure of resetting FSS wasn't changed since w210.

I heard a rumor,,(guess it isn't true) that the 07 and newer FSS has to be reset at the dealer. I had hoped that was not true as I do mine at home when I do the service. And I am very picky about following MB specs for service.

Not true about resetting at the dealer. I was able to get into the service menu yesterday and reset the indicator myself. Then I set it back and it was as it was before 300 something miles overdue. I just wanted to see if I could actually do it.

True I don't think you have to service it at the dealer, but will they want some kind of proof that you actually did all the "required" things even if done on your own or at an independent.

Not a problem .. I ususally photo and receipts are kept for purchase of oil, and filters from the MB dealer.

Hi!

I have a 2008 mod and I`m wondering how you managed to get into the service menu? I`ve tried some of the ways described in threads in the forum but I didnt come in to the service menu. What method did you use to come in?

I read it somewhere and tried it.

Its as simple as putting the car in accessory mode, flipping to the screen that displays just the outside temperature and hitting the reset button (keeping it down). You'll pull up what looks like a voltmeter then you just toggle up and down and you'll see the service items in numerical codes.

Should be simple. Car off, door closed. Put key in turn to position 1. Make sure the multi-function screen is in temperature mode and then hit the reset button on the odometer 3 times quickly. Service menu should pop up.

Hi,

I saw you quoting that you were able to undo the resetting of the service menu. Could you please let me know how you set it back to the original settings after you have done the reset. I own a MBZ E320 model year 2005.
