2007 COMAND upgrade confusion

I have a 2007 E350 sport with Harmon Kardon and 6 disk changer. The new COMAND units are described as having NAV, Blue Tooth, CD changer, etc. all wrapped up into one. I would like to have NAV and BT Phone, and have been looking at the mobridge / itronic as well as installing a NAV drive in the rear. It sounds like it would be simpler to get a 2009 COMAND instead.

I have read all the threads related to a COMAND upgrade / retrofit and it is still confusing to me. Most of them discuss 2003-2006 model cars, fiber cable extensions, GPS splitters, tracing cables, A/B/C pillars, bone stock European models, etc... There is scant mention of 2007 and later models.

I understand most if it and the theory behind doing it, but what I can't seem to pin down is what are my options (if any) for upgrade to a 2009 COMAND unit?

Can you help un-confuse me?

Your 2007 as well as 2008s would be the same as 2003-2006 with Audio50/COMAND. The 2009 COMAND install would be very difficult.

Your car should be fairly simple to install the Nav processor in, and if it is prewired for a phone (does it have a connector in the rear of the console?) all you will need is the Bluetooth puck.

OPTION 387 PRE-WIRED
OPTION 389 PRE-INSTALLED

Prewired means needs modules....

Nothing in the console and neither of those are on the datacard.. The datacard only shows "359 Low Cost Teleaid USA".

I assume your car does not have a P1 package? That would be the first US version MY2007 I have actually heard of personally without a P1 (but I assume they are out there or it wouldn't be an "option").

Shorthair,

I'm in a similar position ... 2006 E500 .. but with nav and CD changer. I want to add iPhone and bluetooth.

I think the latest 2009 Comand is way to much retrofitting for really not much more gain then just upgrading the current system.

There are some threads on adding the bluetooth modules to the 2003-2005 models and from what I've read and has responses from other members the 2006 MY is very similar.

It should be the same. On the 2005 there are two boxes that need to be installed in the trunk, and an antenna splitter. One box is an amplifier for the cell signal and the other is a MOST based box. After they are installed, you need to install the cradle up front which is installed in the console, and this gives you the connection to attach the Bluetooth puck.

Correct - it does not have that package.
