Would you Do It?...HUMMM

I have a 2003 e320 with 122,000mile and no monthly bill. I have serviced and prevented the commom maintenance problems. Its in good condition. I drove past a dealer ship today It had a 2002 e55 on the lot in great condition. 49,000 miles on odometer. the asking price was $12,000.What would you do..Like to hear your opinions..

That sounds like a good deal, but arent there some problems with the e55's without an extended warranty. Thats very cheap though i think, might need to check that out.

Yes you are correct but, according to some of the post you can get a warrant for amg's. I had alitte time going home and it caught my eye. It will be a nice pick up for someone. But would you do it if it was a E430..or E320 4matic with that many miles....

v.s. W211 03,if it inspects well.I would do it any day of the week.
The w211 03 was the most recalled car in Mercedes history. The W210 E55 one of the highest awarded. You might be biased but at your miles the w211 is going to have major problems at some point and a 40k mile E55 will have a long happy classy very quick life to look forward to.
Payments are another thing.Dealer will offer you about 8 grand for the W211 (they know the issues)
Don't forget have it inspected.

Wow 12K seems kind of cheap, but if it didn't have any issues I would pick it up in a second.

'12 Mustang 5.0, '89 Supra Turbo, C55,
There's a reason why u're thinking about upgrading, (yes upgrading IMO) from a v6 W211 E320 to a W210 E55 AMG. I'll bet its performance?? Not just anybody hands out $$ for AMG's, unless they know what they're getting. - u won't regret it.

Have the car inspected, search the W210 AMG section. I understand the V8's are bulletproof, and the 2002 model is the last yr. for the 210. I've driven in one and they are amazing. Hp is like 350ish , and torque is 380ish I believe. (Double ck. me on that).

Your current ride does not compare.

I'm actually thinking of ditching my E500 for a 210 E55, but I've got 339ft/lbs of torque and oh yeah, a Supra.

PLUS, I imagine the AMG community is more intimate with their cars and can perform much DIY work, where u can too, or at least u know what may be wrong when things happen.

Its an AMG - 'nuff said! My .02.

I believe an '07 E550 would give you the same thrilling performance as the soon to be 2 generations old E55 you are considering. That 210 is going to look just like any old car come this spring. Going from a 320 to a 550 is like being struck by lightening... and the 07> cars are really trouble free. Mine is the BEST car I have EVER owned.

I think that car would be worth 12k easily (assuming the standard checklist checks out OK - no rust - no paintwork, good wheels/interior, maintenance, etc.). Where is it located?

If it's only 12 grand, just get it and keep your W211. If you need to sell a car in order to purchase a $12,000 one, maybe MB's shouldn't be on the menu anyway.

Your W211 isn't worth a hill of beans, so why get rid of it if it's been such a great car?

If you're in love with the W210 E55, just get it. But don't sell your car to do it.

I'd do it for sure. The 2002 E55 is my favorite Mercedes of all time...but you can find them with even lower miles than that if you shop around. I found one with 9K once for 22 grand.

In my opinion, the best color combo for that car is silver with the black/white 2 tone interior and nav screen. so ridiculously sick that car!!!!!!

man a lot of people on this forums forgetting the classics in favor of the newest thing to hit the streets! someone above said the 210 will look like any old car?? LOL no way...not a clean 2002 E55. That car will be forever awesome.

I agree. I think in many respects they are better quality than the W211. I have owned two of them and would own another with no question. Excellent vehicle.

Don't forged the Designo Mocha Black...though rare, a DMB w210 e55 is not only ****, but pointy nipples too.

I'll reiterate what I posted above: without a doubt, go for it!

I gotta agree with this.

For the sake of comparing the two, I'd have to say drive the E55 then make your decision. The 211 is a huge leap in driving dynamics and driving refinement over the 210 (minus the DBW hiccups that can hamper those refinements every now and then).

I personally like the 211, but if you have a vanilla '03 E320 with 12xK miles, an E55 very well may be an upgrade. I personally think the 210 E55 is one of M-B's nicest sedans ever and already a classic.

As for "looking old", that can be subjective, and it's all about what matters to you, EVERYTHING gets old, the 211 is soon to be old, the 212 will be old one day, unless your one who cares too much about what people think and how financially-well you come across (always concerned about having the newest car on the block), and your a car enthusiast, forget about what is old or new IMO and go with what tickles your fancy best.

I would go for it..... currently own a e200 (W211) a Kompressor engine 189HP, probably you dont have these in the US, i do agree with the nice styling, nice interior and nice everything.... but i personally felt the w210 was way more rigid than this new one and plus the 2003 has alot of issues, my 2004 has been a night mare...

W210, drives nicer and handles better.... my father in-law has it and i really love driving his more than mine... plus bare in mind the last model MB creates is a great one as they would have solved most of the issues (they have been solving issues on the w210 since 1996), but the early models ussually have all the problems recovered later on... so if you get a W211 2007-2009, you could be better off... but considering the budget I would go for the AMG.... w210... good luck

Or, find an AMG engine from here, and have it in your current car. Look at supercharged v6's from the C32 and SLK32 for similar numbers to the 02 e55 (if gnma's numbers above are correct). Should be in your budget of 12 grand easily.

Best of both worlds. Good luck!

I agree with BenzoRama, keep the W211, and get the E55. I have always liked that boxy body style too!!

RE: 02 E55

It sounds like you want the 02 e55. I would have it checked out by a good mechanic. The 02's were actually quite reliable cars, but be sure there are no costly issues lurking.

If it checks out, I would deduct whatever it needs from the $12K asking price and get it for the best price you can; it sounds like they are expecting an offer?

I would also hold on to the W211 unless you either can't own both simultaneoulsly, or the W211 has issues.

We do live in interesting times, an E55 with 49K for $12 Grand. Thats Scion money.

Good luck and post some pics if you get it.
