question about lease end inspection...

Hi,

My W211 lease end in this month and i have a question regarding lease end inspection. Can I have the car inspect at my MB dealer instead of calling the third party for inspection? Anyone did that at the dealer instead?

Thanks.

I just went through this in the NYC area with my 06 turn in. None of the dealerships here would do the inspection, all saying that it is required by MB Financial that it be conducted by their contracted inspection company. The rep from the inspection co. came from Jersey. Maybe your area is different and the dealerships will do it there. You won't know unless you call the lease maturity deptment at MB and ask.

With the last 4 vehicles at lease end I have never had the inspection done. This is due to the inconvience to me. I really do not wish to interupt my day or week by making such an appointment. I have just turned the car in at the dealer at lease end when picking up my new one. I have never been charged for any damage, etc. even though there have been some cases where I thought I might be. This inspection is optional and not really required but the inspection company will not tell you that as its in their best interest to do it and get paid by MB. They also use a computer generated telephone voice system to remind you and that annoy's the hell out out of me.

Most likely why the inspection was waived.

Thanks for all the info!
My dealer told me that I do not have to get the inspection done by the third party. They can do inspection and drop off for me at the same time. In fact, the sales guy (lease consultant at the dealer) already ran a physical check on my car and said everything is fine. However, when I called MB Finanical today about that. They said I could do that but MB Finanical will still do the inspection when they pick up the car from the dealer and if there is anything wrong could will bill me. Is that true and How likley that will happen? My car is in good shape and the only one concern i have is the front tire does not has much left.
My question is will I run into any problem if I just drop off the car to the dealer?

I'd be a leery of anything the salesperson told me about the lease-end inspection. MB Financial is the one that must be satisfied as to the condition of the car at lease end, not the dealership, and MB Financial will have an inspection conducted by their contractor. When you drop the car off at the dealership at lease end, one of the documents you sign acknowledges this process (which you had already agreed to when you leased the car).

I've turned in two leased E-class cars. On the first one, they missed some damage to the lower edge of the RR fender, but called a broken windshield, which may have had some sand pits at worst. On the second car, it had been hit hard in the rear ($15,000 damage), but repaired correctly, hard to detect if you didn't know it had been hit, and the inspection didn't ding me for anything.

You can also be held responsible for any missed required maintenance...

Just one more thought on the turn-in process--it is a good idea to take lots of pictures of the car from all angles to document the condition of the body panels, interior, glass, and wheels. If I had done this prior to my first turn-in experience, I would have contested the "broken windshield" charge.

Anyone can do the inspection but that will not relieve you from liability if MB finds anything that exceeds their guideline limits. As I said before, I never have had the inspection done and I have turned in I believe 4 cars since 1998 and never have I been charged for anything. As for the tire, the guidelines I believe say no cord showing and if yours does not you should be OK.
