Custom Fiberglass Subwoofer Box For Sale

I was never impressed with the Harmon-Kardon subwoofer/system so I upgraded mine.

I had an awesome installer make me a custom blown fiberglass box that sits right into the port on the right side of the trunk, taking less than 10% of the space. I had installed a JL 10W3 (10" subwoofer), and an Alpine 150 watt amp I guess where the Nav system typically would be.

It obviously was custom, and will not fit in my new Lexus. The box alone cost me $450 only 18 months ago, and still looks brand new. I'll let it go for $250 shipped.

I do not know the exact volume of the box, but was told that it is just over the recommended settings for JL to allow a little more air space. It is not a ported box, and was stuffed with polyfill when I removed the sub before selling.

Please let me know if you're interested.

I'll give you $100 for it. Why can you see the light from the taillight through the enclosure?

Nice looking enclosure. I have a JL 12" sub sitting at home collecting dust. If your enclosure was for a 12", I would definitely have been interested.

I guess you sold the JL 10" sub ?

How much better was the sound with the JL 10" vs the factory system ?

I'd rather be kicked in the nuts at that price. Try again my friend. As for the tail light, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I couldn't see them before the box. If you're talking about the service light in the trunk, it still does put out light when opening the trunk.

I appreciate the kind words. This guy is partners with the rapper T.I. here in Atlanta, and has done a lot of high-end work. I definitely got what I paid for. The dorks over at Best Buy wouldn't even come close!

The sound quality was increased ten-fold. Much more deeper bass, and you can control it easier through the MB interface and the amp itself. It didn't take long at all to tweek it to listen to everything from Rock, to Country, and Rap. I highly recommend the mod!

I do have the JL sub still. Was planning on putting it in the new car, but if you wanted to make me an offer on it and the Alpine amp (150x2), I would entertain it. They too are only 18 months old, and minus installation, I paid $1200 for the sub, box, and amp.

Nice setup. I would consider this complete with the sub too. But what I don't understand, how does/did the bass frequencies get out of the trunk into the cabin? My understanding of MB trunks, they're sealed so one would have to vent up through the rear deck, right? Did you have to cut a hole up through the rear deck?

Hi seahonu,

Thanks. Interesting thoughts.

The subwoofer (JL 10w3v3) sells for $240. I would include it for $175. Actually, this one is newer because I did have an older one in there at first, and replaced it with this one only a year ago in February.

The Alpine Amp (PDX 2x150) sells for $450, and if desired, I would sell it for $300. That brings the total to $725 shipped. I think I may still have the original boxes/manuals as well.

I know MB prides themselves on cabin noise, but there's no way there could be a complete sealment of the trunk. I have the "passthrough" trunk, and honestly, it sounded better than in my previous car that didn't have it. Perhaps it is because of the internal sound dampening (Sort of acts like dynamat, which I didn't do in the MB)? That being said, I didn't roll around with the seats down or anything, and it sounded great.

My buddy does not have the passthrough, and has a similar set up. You really cannot tell much of a difference at all. I really think it's because of how well built the car and box is.

Please let me know if I can answer any additional questions for you.

Low frequency bass sound waves go through darn near anything. Even if you intentionally wanted to block the bass from getting into the cabin, it would be difficult to accomplish. That's why if you have a teenager in your neighboorhood with a thumpin 12" or 15" sub blasting away, you can still hear it in your bathroom !

But I was curious how well the bass sounded from a 10" sub all the way in the back of the trunk.

I came from having a JL 15" sub in an Explorer that was just massive. I was really worried about droping to a single 10", but honestly was impressed. You can seriously crank it up nicely, but you're not going to rattle the rear view mirror off, or crack a side-view mirror like I did before. I'm only 27 now, so I didn't need what I had then I guess

Someone Paypal'ed me the $250 last week, then bailed. It's back up for sale. The sub and amp are available as well.

Dimensions

Sorry in advance if this is confusing, but I thought this may be the easiest way:

1- 16.75in (vertically)
2- 10.25in (sorry there are two of them)
3- 7.25in (length of the curve)
4- 12in
5- 16.75in
6- 31in
7- 11in height
8- 15in height at the low point
9- 16in height at the high point

Let me know if you have any other questions!
