P0244 -- Turbo/Super Charger Wastegate Solenoid “A” Range/Performance
This is an E 320 CDI with I6 engine.
My check engine light turned on and I scanned the car and got this error code. Anyone familiar with this? I searched around and stuff but nothing i could use .
Anyway i cleared the error, it comes back as soon as i step on gas and car goes into limp mode. It's totally powerless.
Usually when I get overboost code on my GTI it usually means something else is up, what are the chances of wastegate failing? almost none... i once had similar situation with GTI and it was bad MAF sensor.
What are the normal g/s MAF readings with a working MAF? I logged around 200g/s at wot (4500+ rpm). Is this ok?

Any one of you wanna help me diagnose these? I know what they mean by looking at general OBD2 code list but he says not all codes mean the same thing, he printed out the whole list of codes and explanations for my car and surely explanations totally do not match with traditional OBD2 codes.
Anyway he says something is wrong with boost and car is going into limp mode and it's gonna be very hard to diagnose. He pointed at electronic wastegate that sits on turbo itself and said it's probably something to do with wastegate itself but he can't be sure, he tested it and it responds BUT he says it takes a fraction of second for it to get stuck and for boost to shoot over the limits specified and car to go into limp mode and throw a code. Wastegate itself can not be replaced, it goes together with turbo...so the whole thing has to be replaced which costs around $2500 + labor another $500 or so...which wants to make me burn my car.
If anyone has any idea what to do, please advice. Could this be faulty MAF or something?
The dealer can appropriately diagnose it with SDS and would have more adequate tools to get to the bottom of it.
As you can tell, your car is not safe to drive the way it is - when it loses power, it will not get out of its own way.
Anyway yesterday i unplugged wastegate electronic contact, drove a car around and i saw P0243 pending (no wastegate error), then i reattached contact, cleared codes and let car sit for a while...it got out of limp mode and I drove it for a while ...it didn't go into limp mode. Hopefully it will be ok. One more thing to notice is that wastegate is covered in oil, possibly from PCV system...there is definitely some oil leaking from somewhere, no fresh oil tho'.
Did anyone install catch tanks on these cars?
