Do W211 '04s, '05s & '06s Have Similar Grill

The '03s and early '04s models came with a five-line grill... that was then changed to four-line grill for later '04 models onwards. But some how the '06 models (though have four-lines as well) seem to me more of a "Ver-shaped"... am I correct or are they exactly similiar to the '04s and atleast early '05s? Anyone noticed?

If so, will an '06 grill fit on a '04 model or is there more to it than a simple grill change?

The '03s - '06s have the same physical shape/size grilles. The number of slats is dependent on whether the car has certain trim options/packages.

The '07 on grilles have a slightly different shape/size to them from the '03 thru '06's with the car as a whole, having a revised front end with a sharper centerline crease to to the front "point" of the car's nose. The grille is also a little "taller" looking which required a different front bumper too so that it could fit at the bottom.

YES.

Only a simple grille change is involved.

I take it, Chicago Buckeye, you concur that the '06 model grill is indeed more of a V-shape than the '04 and '05? I always suspected that never had anyone else confirm it.

I may head to the dealer and see how much the grill will cost... as well as comparing it to mine.

Aren't you comparing the face lift 06-build car to pre-face-lift cars? The grill on the face lift car with a V-shaped nose would not fit to a 2004 car for example, without other parts being changed too. A 2006 build date car can be a pre-face-lift car.

If you wanted to go from the pre face lift to the face lift, you can find threads explaining which parts need to be changed in addition to the bumper and the grill.

Not at all, you must misunderstood me.

When I said "only a simple grille change is involved", I meant that ALL W211 grilles between 2003 and 2006 are FULLY INTERCHANGEABLE. Even with differences in color, slats, they ALL have the same basic shape and fit into the 2003-2006 front bumpers.

The 06 grille does NOT have more of a V-shape, your eyes are playing tricks on you Bro. The new V-shaped grilles first came with the 2007 MY.

As Diesel Benz explained, if you want to use a 2007> grille, you MUST do a COMPLETE front bumper conversion in order to do so (bumper, reinforcements, fog lights, grille, etc); whole thing will run you around $1700.

I know from experience as I did the 07-08 conversion on my E500:

2003-2006 GRILLE/BUMPER

2007-2008 GRILLE/BUMPER

I think for 03 - 06: the regular grille is silver and the appearance package ones are black.

I actually was not mentioning the face-lifted ones; they are clearly different. I guess the '06 grill is similiar to the previous models... that is all i was inquiring about.

Thank you all.

The size of 03-06 grilles are all the same whether or not they have black trim on the slats OR the number of slats.

07 - '09 grilles are all the same size too as a group, but different than the '03 - '06 group of grilles.

Ya, the distronic ones are different since they have some black piece on both sides of the center of the grille. I've seen people change it to that grille just to say they have distronic.
