Arrow 212 (2010 E-Class) DTB

Came across the first DTB for the 212 – seat belt can only be pulled out with great effort while a noise can be heard from the tensioner gear. This may be due to continuously pulling on the seat belt strap while adjusting the fit of the belt after buckling up this causes the drive of the reversible reel tensioner to remain engaged. The automatic tensioner can be deactivated using multifunction buttons on the steering wheel.

This is by the way related to a new W212 feature that not even the W221 has currently. When you buckle the belt, the car tightens the belt first, then gives some slack, resulting to no stress from the belt but still the minimum necessary slack.

This problem from the bulletin does not occur in normal use but from a specific sequence and goes away at a restart but of course a surprise if the driver manages to "activate" it. Interesting that MBUSA has released the bulletin, I would assume it would not concern cars for the US public but mainly those currently in the country for different purposes?

Wouldn't you think something that has a problem that's also used every day would've been noticed by someone during testing/development? Unless they updated something before release without testing it???

DTB is not addressing a production problem but rather educates those owners who have not read the manual as the choice to deactivate automatic seat belt tensioner feature.
