Brake Light Service at 62K - how long can I drive?
Well, it's finally time to do the brakes on my CDI (still on the original tires too). Can I go another 5k or so before servicing? I would like to do this myself but don't want to take the time out of summer. How long does the job take? Planning to replace rotors and pads (what brands?).
Thanks...
Thanks...

No one on this board can tell how far gone your brakes are...

At least spend enough time to caliper the rotors and pads. Any dealer should be able to tell you what the minimum safety tolerances are.

Use Mercedes parts. Do the job via the service DVD, replacing, not reusing bolts as specified. Learn how to disable SBC before starting. You WILL need tools you don't have.

I guess you can drive safely 5K more miles, however figure out what the light means. Because if you need change pads/rotors, then you will see just a message in dash, no light. However if your brake fluid level is low, or brake system has low pressure, then you should correct the problem sooner.

If what you have is the + on the maintenance window of the FSS you probably can go 5000 miles. Based on how I drive and actual measuring of my pads I know I can do 5000 miles. So your results may vary.
However if your warning is service brakes or Warning SBC failure no one can tell you how long. The problem causing the warning is not known. It might just be you hit a wear indicator in the pads that triggered the alarm but you might have some other problem. Is the brake fluid low? Pads / rotors metal to metal![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Changing pads are not a difficult task search on site for info.

Ekm....
vettdvr is right on point. Check out the message board specifically for brakes as well as dialing in on rotors to determine wear level/specs. These steps should guide and provide you with excellent information in how you may want to proceed. Good luck.

I ordered may parts (i.e. brakes, plugs, oil filter etc.) from Bekkers Import. May want to contact them to discuss what you are looking for. They should be able to get you squared away.
