Hello,

I bought my black 2006 E350 last month from an independent dealer out of state. I don't have any information about maintenance in the maintenance book. Is the maintenance history available from my local MB dealer service dept. (assuming the original owner took it to MB for service)? I would think they could look it up by VIN.

Welcome... I believe any local dealer should pull the records of your car. I have heard many instances when a dealer would be hesitant to disclose that information. But if you make it seem as though you want to give the dealer your business, they will give up the info with no problem..

Call the local dealer near where the vehicle was at. Give the VIN and they should be able to see the history of work done.

Mine was purchased from Michigan and the local VA dealer didn't have any history. But they did find open recalls that needed to be done based on the VIN at no cost to me.

Wrt maintenance records, I got mixed answers on this. The most credible answer I got (from a local dealership-prefered SA @ ASC) is that (unlike, say BMW) service history is not kept in the system. What is kept (and I've seen the printout, although they won't let you take it home) is a list of 1) recall work done and 2) any warranty work done (big and small).

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll try calling the dealership to see what info they will share.

btw - it is amazing how many MB are in this area. Of course, I notice them all now that I own one. I must see at least 10 every time I go out.

a few weeks ago, we had a meet at T2 Macys upper parking lot. It was cool to meet other MB owners. We are trying to do it quarterly and maybe a lunch/dinner to get to know one another.

For those new owners, the consensus is most take theirs to Arlington ASC for work. I've taken mine in a vavle baffle oil leak DS that i noticed. They pulled up my VIN and foundan open recall (that i found on here thru konsigner ). I will be taking it next week for Service E( i have 32k miles on it now).

Dealers have access to all service records providing the car was serviced at a MB dealer. The document is known as the VMI (Vehicle Maintenance Inquiry). On it will be all pertinent information to your car, recalls open/closed, and any servicing performed. It will also have the "Data Card" information which is the total history from manufacture including all options installed at that time.
