Has anyone Tinted their windshield?

I'm a big fan of privacy in a car, and not a fan of the sun blaring its UV rays all over me, as well I love the look of nice tints on most cars.

I however have never been too crazy about, nor really considered tinting my windshield.

I started to wonder how it would look aesthetically speaking, and also started craving having something to block rays from my frontal area, and protect my dash, etc. when driving during the day.

On another note, I don't really want to give Police another reason to pull me over, and I'm assuming even some who would not stop me for having tinted front windows and tails, might draw the line at the windshield.

Any pics/experiences?

There is a new kind of ceramic tint for windshields that blocks alot of the UV rays and heat. The tint is blueish. I was skeptical at 1st but it really cut down on the heat in my car. Might want to look into that. It is supposed to block as much UV as a 35% tint. I am pretty happy with it.

I'm in VA and legal is 50% front, rear 35%. With a black car, it helps a bit, but wished i would have gone 35% all around. I also use the rear shade when parked to help out as well.

I would check first as at least one web site I saw says that under California law it is illegal to tint the windshield (or the front windows!): I'm not in Cal. but you should check or you might find yourself attracting attention you don't want.

This from this website: <http://www.sandiegodrunkdrivingattorney.net/2007/11/tinted-windows-ok-in-california-how-to.html>

The California Vehicle Code states: "No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied in or upon a vehicle which obstructs or reduces the driver's clear view through the windshield or side windows."

Another section of the Vehicle Code states: "No person shall place, install, affix, or apply any transparent material upon the windshield, or side windows of any motor vehicle when the material alters the color or reduces the light transmittance of the windshield or side windows."

Ya I was thinking of something too. It's such a pain. Our CL500 is great with that purple infrared windshield thingy. You can't feel the heat. I was wondering if there is a way to get that put on. It comes on the S and CL only.

I think you'll have the same issue in Florida. The revenue troopers love to take notice of dark tints.

I think if you make it the color light enough but just enough to block some heat, you will not likely to attract the cop's attention.

Asside from the obvious legal issues, the glare from a tinted windshield is very bad. Your dashboard is constantly displayed in the winshield from the reflecting film. Also driving at night in poorly light areas yields very poor visability.

Not recommended.....

I have and 07 e350 key to the cure edition.......

20% Infrared film all around and 35% on windshield

IR film blocks 90-95% of heat regardless on shade. I started selling this film about 2 years ago and I still have not found anything that compares to it..

Interesting, that would be a definite deal breaker for me!

Do any of you guys with the tinted windshield have Pics by chance?

well here in the philippines you can tint as much as you want (as dark as you want). but in this case you are not here.. are Vkool tints allowed in LA? those are clear tints the reject heat, they say by 95-97% placed one in my subaru and works well. as soon as my car gets back i'll post a pic. its panther black (super black) all around and medium black in the front. since i upgraded everything to HID i have no problems at night (lo beam, hi beam and fog lamps) HID here is also allowed. try asking about the Vkool tints in your area. =)

K-A...I have 70% on my front windshield and it has really helped cut down the glare on those bright days in Cali...I was skeptical at first but a guy down here did 70% all around and I couldn't even tell if he had tint or not...

with my car being black and tinted on all other windows I've had no issues...

I will try and take some pix -- I've been out of the loop for awhile without a camera...

...I'll wash my car today and post some pix...

maybe we can meet up sometime so you can see in person...I'm in Long Beach but also work in LA...

Pics would be nice (especially from the perspective of the driver... looking out of the windshield on a sunny day with the camera at eye-level). I've been thinking about tinting the windshield too with Huper Optik Ceramic 60 (since I already had the rest of the car done), but am waiting for my plates so I can take the stupid windshield sticker off before I even consider doing it. Man, every year CA seems to get hotter and hotter in the summer time!

with the windows up and conisdering the car is black with darker tint all around, the front windshield looks fine.

no heat, glare issues...hardly use the visor as well.

by the way, I only paid $125. to have the entire front windshield done. it took about an hour and just let the car sit in the sun...no issues with the radio either...

Lots of SoCal people do the windshield with Huper Optik (nano-ceramic) Cops won't bother you as it's not so noticeable but blocks out UV. Nice neutral color, too. http://www.huperoptikusa.com/products_ceramic.cfm

Stop in at Song's Tint Masters on Washington. They are Huper authorized.

Expensive stuff, but worth it, imho.

Ask for Jae or Han and let them show you some examples.

For Huper Optik in NorCal check with Sidney Lee here http://www.yelp.com/biz/auto-mall-ti...ialist-fremont

Thanks for the advice and referral.

I'm sure Song's is great, but if I do decide to it, I'm going to take my car to:

Perfect Window Tint, Inc.
Salvador - Owner

3071 S. Harbor Blvd.
Santa Ana, CA 92704
(714) 546-1002

They did the tint on my other windows, and did an AMAZING job for a VERY reasonable price (compared to other Huper Optik authorized installers). They are also one of the few that's authorized to install Huper Optik in SoCal, and they are much closer to my house than Song's (saves drive-time and is more convenient).

I am running the Pinnacle F1 ceramic, 35% all around except 15% on back, looks fantastic on my Iridium silver car. No glare, massive heat reduction.

Of course I live in Texas having long ago moved from the Peoples Republic of CA.

here's some other examples: directly at sun then passenger window down versus front windshield...

Thanks again and very cool.

This is O/T, but I thought all Face-Lifted W211's had the decontented A-Pillar interior materials? Yours has the same fancy "fluffy" material on it that mine does, most F.L's I've seen have a more industrial grade, "spongy"-ish material.
