BEST HANDS-FREE (VISOR TYPE) BLUETOOTH UNIT FOR 2004 E320W

Looked into getting the puck to use via COMMAND system but does not support phones we have so need to go to Visor type unit as I really don;t think I want installed unit where they ahve screw unit on & potentially mess something up.

Have a Blackberry Bold & they make one but can only be used with Bold and we also have iPhone.

Any recommendations for other brands that sync contacts & call by voice & have decent sound qulaity?

Anyone have the one made by Parrot?

Thanks.

I was told at dealer that only 1st Gen iPhone would work & that Blackberry Bold would not work with Puck - also we have AT&T on both phones. Thanks.

All BT phones will work...
the question is whether phonebook upload will work or not...

I have a iPhone 3GS and Google G1. Both work and both address books get downloaded automatically.

I used to have a Samsung Blackjack. That one, I had to mark my contacts and send the contacts but after that, my address book worked on the COMAND.

Anyone have a Blackberry Bold that works as that would be the primary phone. Thanks.

Most BB phones work VERY well with MB phone system and normally support phone book upload. I have yet to see a phone that will not pair.

As previously posted, the only issue is if the phonebook uploads. I would rather have the integrated bluetooth w/o phone book uploaded than a visor mounted aftermarket setup....

If you don't have NAV, kill two birds with one stone and get a Garmin (or comparable GPS) with built-in Bluetooth. It's also an MP3 player - run it through your AUX input.

I've got an 06 E500 with the NAV, but the phone does not appear to be supported.
How do I get a puck? is it plug and play?

I was told by dealer that the puck was not returnable since it's electronics. They said I do not need the entire kit - just the one piece - since I already have the phone unit in the compartment. So is this "plug & play" to install & pair phone or is there service/labor cost involved? Maybe I'll give it a shot. I suppose I could always sell it if it doesn't work.

I use the Garmin with BT and my iPhone 3GS. I love it, but wish I had an integral factory solution for my '03 E320.

Your dealer is incorrect. We have an 04 E 320 wagon. We installed the bluetooth cradle and v60 "puck" and it works with both iPhone 3G and Blackberry Bold. Address books for both download (my only "trick") is I have the Bold set only to download those numbers in my "car" group rather than all 500. If you install the puck and cradle yourself you will have to have the dealer "version code" so the steering wheel display will pick up the numbers. But it all works.

So does he have to make a new category in Outlook called "CAR" & change people to that group so that when he syncs BB with his laptop that is updated & then only those download to his car? Dealer is installing puck & cradle. I could have sworn parts guy said we only needed puck as we had cradle but just never used it.

The categories for Bluetooth synch can be set directly on the Blackberry and I did mine without regard to Outlook (at the time I started this process, my firm was Lotus Notes). It has nothing to do with Outlook or the email client you use. In the address book in the blackberry you can set up categories and save addresses to those categories. Then in the bluetooth setup on the Blackberry ("Manage Connections, "Bluetooth Options". "Options", then under "Contacts Transfer", select "Selected Categories Only" and then select the one(s) you want to synch. I saved about 100 to "car" and have not had a problem with either the 04 E320 or an 08 E550.

Just FYI, category synch does not work on an 09 E350, which has a different system --- but it has enough memory to download my entire address book and my wife's too.

I bought a "puck with tails" for my 2004 E500. I'll let you know how it works. FWIW, I bought it because I wanted the phonebook integration controlled by Command.

We got the "puck with tail" for 2004 E30. Even though my husband had added a category called Car to his BB Bold it did not given an option to download that category so it downloaded contacts A-G. He's going to try adding it in Outlook, changing in Outlook, synching his Bold & trying the sync again in car. Otherwise, seems to work well so far.
