Just picked up - 07 Bluetec

Just did a trade-in a picked up an 07 Bluetec. Every model iteration the diesels seem to get a little less noisy, with a little less vibration. Quiter than the W210 E300 TurboDiesel I drove, and definitely a universe away from the W126 300SD my father had when Iw as younger.

My only gripes so far, is to how 'de-contented' MB chose to make it for the USA market. My '07 lacks:
- TPMS (biggest gripe)
- Babysmart airbags (not really a big deal for me)
- Rest mode
- Diesel block heater
All four were standard in Canadian market Bluetecs. Must've been the value of the dollar at the time. Oh well, it is what it is.

It is a HVAC Mode whereby after the car is shut down you press the "Rest" button (not on recent cars) and the fan will continue blowing for up to 30 minutes after you leave the car. It picks up residual heat/cold in ducts in the HVAC system & keeps the car "warm"/"cool" while you are gone.

The system cuts off if battery power goes down below a "safe" limit.

In -20F temperatures, I did not have need for a diesel block heater in my Bluetec.

Diesel will continue to get better. I had a W116, W124, W126, W140. Wonderful car, but the best is yet to come. A pity that VW bailed out on their V10, but it was just too fuelish for these times.

Enjoy.

07 E320 Bluetec / Arctic White / Cashmere MBtex
P02, 057, 287, 289, 297, 396, 881

First mods I want to do are pretty simple
- Add ELEGANCE fender badging as on EU/CA models
- Get rid of orange front markers
- Replace stupid scripted Mercedes windshield label with "A DAIMLER-BENZ product" label.

Only residual heat - from the hot engine. There is no such thing as "residual cold". For the latter you need to run the A/C. So REST *only* keeps the interior warm when it is cold outside. It will not cool the interior down when the outside temperature is high enough to use A/C.
