SDARS Installation on 2006 E-Class

I have the 2006 E-500 w/o pre-wiring for the Satellite kit. I have seen several posts regarding this. I have also seen various SDARS units for sale that say they can be used on multiple MB models with the MOST setup. Have also seen where the MB harnes to do the retrofit for non pre-wired cars is available through the delaerships. Has anyone here done the retrofit on a non-pre-wired car? Where does the new harness tap in and how tedious a job is it--does the harness need to be threaded up to the command unit or does it tap into the MOST ring on the back carreir shelf--what about the power tap? A previous post shows the following numbers as the correct kit for this: Any useable alternative MB units?

6-7-83-0060
SDARS receiver
$457.50
6-7-83-0084
SDARS antenna
$70.50
6-7-83-0069
SDARS install kit
$59.25

What is the harness number?

Thanks guys,

George Des

EPC shows wiring harness part # 2114400606 navigation + CDC + SDARS (for comparison shopping, parts. com $469.20) diagram should give a general overview of retrofit.

I've been trying for months to get my 06 done, too. It looks like a major pain in the @$$ if you're not prewired (I'm not either.) The parts aren't too bad, but I think the fiber wiring from front to rear would be difficult at best.

Itronic

Guys this info is useful, Thanks. However, after looking at the wiring schematic for the OEM SDARS harness, it appears the Itronic Satellite unit may be a somewhat easier alternative to the the OEM setup, especailly if the install is similar to the Itronic BlueTooth unit. Anyone here have experience installing the Itronic?

This installation is detailed in Mercedes WIS Bulletin P-I-82.60/466

Every single step, every single part number. 12 pages, 21 illustrations

Why is this so hard?

It's hard only because some of us have not seen or do not have access to the WIS you referenced. W/o this pub, many of the posts here lead one to believe it is a very difficult task. Would love to have the pub if readily available w/o breaking the bank!

The Itronic Sat kit WILL NOT WORK with our cars. I tried to do that already, too. I waited for several weeks to get it after I ordered it, and then got some lame *** excuse about why it wouldn't work with my car.

SDARS Install on 2006 E500

AreL11,

Thanks for providing the heads up on this. Looks like if I want something that works like the real thing, I'll need to bite the bullet and get the real thing. Now. Has anyone gone through the ordeal of adding the harness to a car that is not pre-wired? One of the West Coast MB retrofitters who is currently advertising on EBAY says his kit comes with the required harness for an additional $99.00. Does this ring true? One of the posts above indicates the harness on EPC is over $400.00. Is this the same harness or something else. Why oh why didn' they just pre-wire these things!!!!!

I contacted MBenzNL about a full kit to make it work, including what pre-wiring we're missing and it was $150 for the missing harness, not to mention the factory parts. If you truly want it in your car, be prepared to open up your wallet. I don't want it that bad. I have the factory ipod connector and its been ok so far.
