hey guys i have a serious problem.
i was out to get some food and made a few stops and the car was fine then i park it to pick up our food and when i go to leave the car just turns over but it wouldent fire up.
after geting pissed i pulled the fuel pump fuse and put it back in then it hesitated to start for a sec but it fired up and after i drove it about a half of mile home i turned the car off then tryed starting it and it cranked up normal.
now i have a check engine light on.
is there a dionostic port on this car? i have a buddy that can scan it for me.
what could of caused this?
now im scared to drive it any where.

All cars in the US have to have a port within a few inches of the steering column. I cannot remember the exact location but it is easily visible. Since it is a M-B they put a little cover over the connection to keep it clean. It appears that we have a steady flow of squeaky blower motors, dead aux batteries, and bad crankshaft positioning sensors. I am going to blindly pick the last for you. OBDII scanner should point you in the right direction. I have not changed this out (yet) but I did look for it on a V-6. It is near the rear of the left cylinder bank and somewhat difficult to get your hands on. If that is the problem, I believe the part is under $100. Good Luck.

ok so after i got home i left it sit for about a hour then i tryed starting it and it cranked up normal but the ses light was still on then about every 10-15 min i would go out side and start the car and after a few times the light went off and the car seems fine.
all in all i started it about 10 time in a few hour period and it was perfect every time.

I also agree, it does sound like the CPS. Its a common problems on the W210 E55s (might be all W210s) as well.
Wouldn't hurt to clean out or replace the MAF sensors too while you're at it.

Hi gang.
To confirm, it is CRANKshaft and not CAMshaft position sensor?
Reason I ask is that our old BMW E36 had both, and I don't know enough about our W211 to know if it has both also...
Engine also seems to be idling low or a little rough sometimes. Would that be related or not?

Hi, I have seen all the great posts about the crank shaft position sensor. I have a 2004 E320 and I was able to locate the sensor and pull the wire but cannot get to the screw. I can feel it but no extension or elbow connection allows me to turn the screw. The 6.5 mm seems to lock on , but the angle of the sensor prevents me from turning the screw. The E55 post with pictures seems close to my E320, but it appears that I have less space.
Any advice? Is there a tool someone can recommend?

just about all cars have both, but yes this refers to the CRANK position sensor.

That sensor is not the Crankshaft sensor, that is the Camshaft sensor
