I would be a first time MB buyer but an avid car fan. I do have a good friend who is a mechanic who primarily works on MB, BMW, and Audi's.

I currently have a price ceiling of about 19K. I understand the 06 is the last year before the face lift but the trade off is it gets me under my price point. According to the Carfax the car was a one owner lease that was then sold at auction. The Carfax also came up clean on anything else. So what do you think about the price, options, and look of the car, and what should I look for before purchasing this vehicle?

Looks pretty clean, though the mileage is a bit high. I don't think that the MY2006 had Sensotronic brakes, so that's a plus from what I've gleaned from this forum.

2006 does have the sbc braking system. facelifted cars got rid of it.

I dont think its sports - Sports ones came with darker wood trim & airmatic suspension -- Make sure to get it inspected, fixing this car could be real heavy on the wallet

MY03-06 equipped with SBC braking (includes MB 10 year/unlimited mileage warranty), PM email address and I will send MB datacard listing initial delivery date, factory-installed equipment/codes, etc., have local dealer run VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry) by supplying VIN to confirm all applicable recalls and service campaigns have been performed. If any work is outstanding, MBUSA will cover at no out of pocket cost. In addition, http://www.intellichoice.com/search/used may come in handy.

Sport model does not have airmatic suspension. Only E500 got it.
Carfax does not have any record of of service history for this car. I'd go to MB service and ask them to run report to see if this car was on service even once.

the sports (appearance package) came with dark wood, blue glass, LED tail lights, full leather, airmatic (even on v6s, mine has it), 17 inch wheels, BiXenon, and couple of other stuff. the later 06 models came with a little different stuff (18 inch 10 spoke rims, no airmatic, exhaust tips, i don't know the full list, check cars.com).

this car has the AMG sports package (very very rare for 03 - 07 cars, that's why it's probably more money). comes with amg body kit, amg 17 inch staggered wheels, lowered suspension, exhaust tips, etc.

you also get heated seats on this car.

That is a nice looking E350. My advice to you, is go look at the car again. If your gut tells you to get it, go for it. I would certainly, purcahse an extended warranty from Mercedes, to cover those things that come up. I would definitely have your mechanic friend give it the once over. I know that American Service Center, in Arlington and MB of Alexandria, offer a 25 point inspection for free, and the grade your car, with a green, yellow or red light. Might be worth checking into, to ensure your car is good to go. Nothing worse then buying a car, plagued with problems. Despite Carfax!!

Great looking car. Good price too. Definitely spend the ~$150 and get it inspected at the MB dealer.

Counterpoint, this car went to auction which means MB financial / selling dealer did not want the car back.

Doesn't mean the car is bad but it does mean that the dealer didnt or couldnt CPO the vehicle.

To me that makes this a middle quality used car unless proven wrong. Make sure your price reflects that

I guess at this stage I really need to take it to MB for a pre sale inspection and see what they say. Even though my buddy is a great mechanic I would just feel better about MB looking at it.

Yeah, exactly. Only correction is the AMG Pack has 18" wheels actually.

To O/P, the AMG Pack on the pre Face-Lift E is indeed rare, and is the best looking version of one you'll find IMO. The mileage is a bit high, but if it checks out, that's an incredible price, I mean $18 friggin' K for that is a lot of car.

Although I have about half that mileage, with prices like that popping up, looks like I might just have to keep this car forever, lol.

Either pre-'06, or pre-'05 (can't remember which) E320 *Appearance/Sport* (Not AMG Sport) Package cars did come with Airmatic actually.

So I went last night for a test drive and the first thing I noticed was a sticker of 23k on it. I asked and he said the price I saw was strictly a Presidents day weekend sale price but since I had just printed the add they said they would honor it. They did say it was a no haggle price.

The car was beautiful, so I guess I will move forward with getting a pre sale inspection at MB.

MB is running a financing special until March 1st. 1.9% financing on all CPO 2006-2008 E-class. I just grabbed a 2006 E500 non-sport for $22,900. It was a good deal with the financing.
