Thank you I did try them several times - I'm going tfind out if the big face until is a plug and play into my car and search for it - I enjoy the stock head unti look and I'm sure thatll solve my issues

How do I find out which one I have and what is AGW? A little new to this as I've only had the car 5 days now and have just been ordering parts and parts yet the sound system is in the works now !! So I appreciate any tips

Use this CD to update the COMAND Head Unit to software version 46/06.
Unzip the archive and burn all of the files onto a regular CD-R disc, making sure that your software finalizes the disk when it's done. I use NERO, and on NERO it is listed under the "burn" tab on the verification screen just before the CD starts burning.
Once you have the CD, power up your COMAND unit, briefly hold down 1,3,8 at the same time, and the service screen should come up asking you to insert the CD. Insert the CD and the update will begin automatically. VERY IMPORTANT....DO NOT CHANGE SETTINGS OR TURN IGNITION ON OR OFF DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS.
Once the CD is done updating, it will eject the CD and the COMAND unit will restart itself. That's all there is to it.
My unit is a 2005 version, and I cannot attest to weather this will work in other versions, but I have read that it will work on all COMAND units.
If you do not have the Nav module, then this should still update your audio SW... but only if you have the COMAND Head Unit (the one with the large screen). If you have the smaller unit, I think it's called the Audio 50 (but don't quote me on that), then I don't think this will work for you.
Also, this IS NOT a map disc. This is simply the SW update for the COMAND system itself. This update will add a few features with the Navigation module (i.e., adds the ability to display ETA at the bottom of NAV screen) if you have it installed, but it also updates other audio items as well, like the ability to play MP3 discs.

I just finished this update...
1) No MP3 in CD6 (my W211 was built in 10/03)
2) It erased all of my radio presets, as well as all of my VCS data (really annoying!)
3) No more access to the Engineering Mode with the previous method (Is there a "new" key sequence that works?)
4) The CD slot in the COMAND no longer loads discs. I think this is a coincidental failure, as the update CD barely loaded, and was very slow to eject.
So, what's it gonna take to fix the loading motor on the CD slot?

2.) That is normal If you updated to firmware version 30/06 then yes no more EM access. They changed the key sequence to get in, and they also changed the key sequence for the Driver Distraction menu within EM.
3.) Normal as well that it erases the station presets - unfort. But the good thing is you don't have to update your COMAND as often as your Windows PC
4.) you're talking about COMAND, so I assume you have the COMAND APS (NTG1). If the motor fails and/or CDs/DVDs don't get read anymore you most likely need a new drive. If you need a new drive, PM me as I would need some information from your COMAND because over the years Harman/Becker used different drives and if it doesn't match the one you have now it might not play/work right. You can compare that with a tire and a rim. The tire will work on a rim but if the wheel is not balanced it just doesn't work right.

yup it won't. MY05 the CD changer became MP3 capable (MY09 it became a DVD changer). However, starting MY05, the COMAND didn't come with the secret DVD drive anymore so u still get more music on 1 DVD-R vs 6 CD-R's

yup it won't. MY05 the CD changer became MP3 capable (MY09 it became a DVD changer). However, starting MY05, the COMAND didn't come with the secret DVD drive anymore so u still get more music on 1 DVD-R vs 6 CD-R's

DVD+/- both work with the unit. However DVD-R are usually the better choice (not just for the HU) btw.My car is a 2004 and CDC also plays mp3's.

Once your COMAND accepts mp3 files you can burn them as "Data" instead "Audio". A regular CD can contain about 21 songs each 3 minutes average. If you burn them as Data you can put about 180 songs on it.
