Thanks to everyone for posting this thread!
I burned the files to the CD as a data CD and tried the procedure couple times but the CD always keeps coming out after a few seconds. I pressed the 138 , it said Insert Update CD and when I put the CD in there in comes out in a few seconds...
Any suggestions?

Mercedes COMAND HEAD UNIT Service CD W211 589 14 22 00
This is for 2003-2006 models with command unit.might also work for 2007-2009 yr model

Use this CD to update the COMAND Head Unit to software version 46/06.
Unzip the archive and burn all of the files onto a regular CD-R disc, making sure that your software finalizes the disk when it's done. I use NERO, and on NERO it is listed under the "burn" tab on the verification screen just before the CD starts burning.
Once you have the CD, power up your COMAND unit, briefly hold down 1,3,8 at the same time, and the service screen should come up asking you to insert the CD. Insert the CD and the update will begin automatically. VERY IMPORTANT....DO NOT CHANGE SETTINGS OR TURN IGNITION ON OR OFF DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS.
Once the CD is done updating, it will eject the CD and the COMAND unit will restart itself. That's all there is to it.
My unit is a 2005 version, and I cannot attest to weather this will work in other versions, but I have read that it will work on all COMAND units.
If you do not have the Nav module, then this should still update your audio SW... but only if you have the COMAND Head Unit (the one with the large screen). If you have the smaller unit, I think it's called the Audio 50 (but don't quote me on that), then I don't think this will work for you.
Also, this IS NOT a map disc. This is simply the SW update for the COMAND system itself. This update will add a few features with the Navigation module (i.e., adds the ability to display ETA at the bottom of NAV screen) if you have it installed, but it also updates other audio items as well, like the ability to play MP3 discs.

I have an 05 E55 and I noticed my 6 disc in dash will play MP3 CD-s, butthose same discs won't play in the top slot-load. Any idea if this firmware may help that issue? Would be AWESOME to burn a DVD full of MP3's and salp it in the top slot.

Yes. Update 30/06 will update firmware to play mp3s in the top CD-drive. 30/06 is a pure COMAND head unit update and has nothing to do with your navigation processor in the trunk or the CD Changer. Navigation processor Inge trunk also cannot be used to play back movies on DVDs. This just to clarify once again as many are mistaken on this. I have a ECE spec COMAND with dual-layer DVD/CD drive and I can use 9.5GB Dual-Layer DVDs full of mp3, I can play back standard definition DVD movies as long as try are burned as a regular DVD with the necessary folder structure and correct files inside. COMAND is unable to play back any encoded or compressed films such as divx, xvid or anything else.
If you want to burn your own music videos (I do this, I'll create a DVD with appropriate software that generates a legit DVD with menus and what not!

And for further clarification, for almost all North American COMANDS that have been upgraded to play mp3 files, they will only play mp3 files burned onto a CD disc. Very few NA COMANDS have DVD drives, and even then they aren't able to play DVD video.

Only first batch of US spec COMAND head units had DVD drives in. There was no need to continue and Daimler AG decided to replace DVD drives with cheaper CD drives. Reason: US spec COMAND head units don't have the necessary Omega DVD playback encoder chip on mainboard, hence it was unnecessary to equipt unit with DVD drives. Later on ECE head units got Dual-Layer DVD drives like mine.

Hi, Ive been searching across the forum and googled but can't find a definitive answer as to whether there are unlock codes for this model.
Reading through this thread I find you guys seem to know what you are talking about.
I drive a Japanese import E500 (W211) 2003 Avantgarde
Comand system has:
3D Nav maps with Japanese language voice directions
Phone pre-wired for Japanese CdMA phones (I presume)
E-mail and web browsing function using cellular data connection.
Digital TV Tuner
DVD\CD player accessible by sliding the motorized display screen UP
MD player accessible by sliding the motorized display screen DOWN
6 CD changer (single slot)
Does anyone have the unlock codes for this particular variant of the Command? Ive tried several codes listed for USA/Euro without success. I would like to enable MP3 playback on my HU.
My question is if I update my command, with the update CD mentioned in this thread, will my UI change to a fully English interface?
Id appreciate any assistance you can give. Ive attached some pics as well as a copy of the original MB Command manual (in Japanese) for your ref. I can post a video on YouTube if anyone requests.
Im really happy with this car and if I can update this command to your euro or us spec software it'll be a perfect ride. I'm don't quite understand why MB would go out of their way to design a special variant of W211 just for the Japanese market!

EM codes are for Harman/Becker COMAND systems. Japanese spec COMAND systems are build by Alpine and therefore won't work. I think I mentioned that just a few posts up.
You cannot use US/ECE spec updates for yours.

I'm sorry but I live half way around the world from you. Wish I was in SoCal though. Do you by any chance have the proper key sequence to enter diagnostics/engineering mode for these Alpine made Commands?
My local Benz service is unable to do anything with this command. So pls help is you have ny info about this.

I have ECE Comand NTG1 with Video DVD decoder. Everything was fine until I started doing different things in EngineeringMode. I have deleted a file or something else (I remember I deleted something) by mistake and Comand has stopped working properly. He pointed to the monitor software update. I downloaded from the internet update file but it turned out that it's an update to the U.S. version
. Now I have no video playback or dr.dist in EngineeringMode. When I want to install a version of ECE, Comand displays Wrong Version. Does anyone know how to reset to factory version Comand ECE, or how to remove the U.S. software from Comand to be able to install the ECE software again?

If you want PM me and I tell you how I can get your original firmware reflashed onto your COMAND.

I wonder if I can delete the flash ROM in this US version software just as I did it before. I was looking to spoil the Comand but this software Engineering Mode I did not find such an option to reset flash ROM. How to spoil Comand was calling for a software update?
