Cool Mobil 1 5w-30? Dealer recommendation...

Hi

Its been told a lot of timet but nothing really specific....

Now i am using 0w 40 and I called 2 MB dealers in Chicago and they told me thay they are using mobil 1 5w-30 when changing an oil....so I bought MOBIL 1 5w-30 and now I am kind of affraid after I read that mobil1 5w-30 its not a FULL synthetic......on the bottle it said FULL, how it is in the real world? Can i change the oil now? Last time I put 0w-40 by myself but before that, I changed an oil at the dealership so they probably put 5w-30 anyways.....

Any good words?

thanks guys

Use what your manual states. The Oil it Specifies has changed over the lifespan of the W211.

Actually.. all 211s v6 and v8 take mobile 1 0w-40 European car full synthetic.. that's for gasoline engines. Not sure of the gap plug, diesel brothers tho

But sometimes dealers take into account.t where there located. I'm sure in a colder place(that's colder 3/4 of the year. They make u use a heavier weight. Is it that cold inchicago? Lol. Here in philly even new York.(ice had my oil changed at Benz dealers in both citys) and they used 0w-40 no questions asked. And I've called 3 dealers in ny and bout 4 in pa/nj

In the winter time is extremely cold, but summer - hot hot hot.....

I just moved to Europe and waiting or my car to be delivered soon, before I left I bought an oil (MOBIL 1 5W-30) because obviously its cheaper, but now I am really sceptic about it...I dont want to make any damage to my engine...

When you get service in your area, appears you need to tell your dealer you only want Mobil 1 0-40w oil used. I'm not familiar with Mobil 1 5-30w oil but I thought all Mobil 1 oils are full synthetic. But if it were my car, I would get the oil changed immediately. You can buy the Mobil 1 0-40w from any auto parts store such as Advance Auto Parts, etc. WalMart also sells it even cheaper.......their 5 quart Mobil 1 container is only about $26 ($5.20/quart). Buy 8 quarts and also buy the Genuine MB oil filter at your MB Parts Dept.....you can order MB oil fitlers discount from an online auto parts store but that will take several days. You can take your vehicle to a service station or oil change facility and tell them to use your oil and filter.........around $20 labor. The total cost for that approach about $72, or, check to see if any of the MB dealers in your area offer oil and filter change specials like the ones in my area do for $89........but you better confirm in your area that they use Mobil 1 0-40w oil.

As far as I can remember only 0w-40 Mobil1 meets MB 229.5 specs - Read on the back of 5w-30 bottle if that spec is there - I'm almost sure its not

becareful of what oil you put in

I'm pretty sure the 5W-30 oil he is talking about meets 229.51 specs - suitable for MB Diesel engines, NOT gasoline engines. Seems to be a cost cutting measure at the dealers. Use only the 229.5 oil (FWIW, several brands have oil that meets the spec). 229.51 is not correct for the gasoline engines.

U're right, 229.51 is for diesel engines, 229.5 for gasoline
