How hard and expensive is it to retrofit Parktronic?

Is it hard to retrofit Parktronic in our car? I assume all I have to do is placing the control unit into to bracket in the trunk, replacing the impact strips with the sensors on the bumpers and connect everything with the system?

tear open rear shelf and front dash to install the readout units. in my opinion not worth it. Especially with a smaller car. (no Offense) if you had a CL or a S..... somehting more than 200 inches than it might be worth it.

Personally just take 20 min learn exactlly where your ends and you'll be good. when i Drive my Mothers S550. I turn the damn thing off, gets annoying to me.

It's not about me. I learned everything from parking front in, reverse, side you name it to driving on the Autobahn with 250 km/h in Germany in driving school as it is mandatory to get your license. It's more about GF and the hobby of retrofitting my car.

but you guys know what, it's a mod that can end up paying for itself (avoiding dings and paint damage).

Why not just add a rear cam. Ok it is aftermarket and not "MB" but will give rear view. I saw one in AZ last week at the check out on display.

Added Parktronic to my 210 (REAR ONLY) and it required a wire harness, control unit, new rear dome light assy for display, rear impact iith sensors and a LOT of labor ...For rear only its called park stop option in europe

I've never heard of a "rear only parktronic" in Europe, but in Canada they call it Quick Park.

In my opinion the rear view camera is not as good as Parktronic. Not only because it does not watch after the front but also because drivers are used to watching backwards or the rear view mirror which is not possible while watching the camera.

Of course a camera is a lot better than nothing but if I had to choose one or the other, I would definitely go for Parktronic.

Hey Mark,

thanks for the (partial) list of things I would need. One thing though. Never count the time if its your hobby. Lot's of mods on our cars need a lot of labor, if you don't have to pay someone this is free in any way.

i am not a big fan of the rear view camera thing. all i would need is the audible indication actually. i don't really need the visual indication with the LED strip, but it helps.

Correct, the MB Sprinter for instance only uses audible indication and we used to have one back home. The faster the beep the closer to an object, solid beep only 5 cm = 2 inches away from the object.

@gaazmon, did you hardwire your Cobra?

We bought our S211 used and it has aftermarket parking sensors in the rear of the vehicle only, with a control unit mounted in the rear quarter panel and "audible sensing" only, no light meter or anything up front.

Those things are likely a dime a dozen on the web, and frankly will get you 99% of what you need.

no i've never looked into it actually. i take it out of the car and move it around a lot so never really thought about it. how difficult is it? i guess i can still move it around and use cigarette lighter plug for other cars but keep hardwiring in my E320.

I'll try to find stable 12V in the front dome light. I also found a cable for 25 bucks that supposedly works that way. But I looked closer to that cable and there is nothing on it that a simple cable out of my electronic box can't do. So I rather save the 25 bucks and make my own cable with a RJ11 connector. Once it works, I'll post on this forum.

Too bad there is no inexpensive solution for adding Parktronic. I am still having a hard time figuring out where the right front corner of the car is and I ALWAYS err on the side of caution and sometimes feel silly in tiny DC parking parking lots as I take 0% chance of scrapping anything.

Maybe an inexpensive parking aid retrofit would be adding retractable three pointed star MB dongle thingies to all 4 corners and the back of the car. I am joking of course... Still might not be as silly as me doing a 10-point turn in a confined space.

I can check. I didn't do it and I won't do the mod. I can park in and don't need the aid and don't wanna spend the money on that mod anymore. I just thought it would be cool to have.

Backup / parking sensors

Hello,
I am going to install and aftermarket parking sensor kit, and it is turned on but the 12V that is applied to the back up lamps.

Anyone have a wiring diagram or breakout for the tail light harness?

Thank you,
