Loud clicking sound from panoramic sunroof

Loud clicking sound from panoramic sunroof
New to this web site and I already got some very helpful hints. Now the panoramic sunroof will not operate and makes this very loud clicking sound that seems to be coming from underneath the light pod above the rear view mirror. Anybody have the same issue? Is it a defective motor, track, etc? Does anyone have any idea how to remove the light pod and get to the motor?
I appreciate the help and will post pics when I attempt to fix it.

Had the same issue on my 08 e350 that noise comes from the front air deflector sticking and then popping up when you open the roof. Since it rarely happened I didn't look for a fix but maybe this will help point you in the right direction.

Loud clicking sound from panoramic sunroof
Hey I have the same problem with my roof. Just started today but it makes the sound while trying to close the sunshade which is also stuck open. Sunroof still opens and closes though. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm going to attempt to fix it soon. Also its not the deflector in my case, I already had to replace one of those which got stuck up and broke when I closed the roof because I didn't notice it was stuck.

On mine it was the motor for the roof part. the gear case splits (bends) and the motor gear drive is stripping out against the plastic gear inside motor. Had to remove lots of things to get to it. The overhead pod, the pillar trims, headliner ets. Got part from parts.com for $190

Thanks for replying so quickly alexdimit. I was hoping it might just need adjusting/tightening, sounds like it might be worse. U wouldn't happen to remember how to remove overhead pod, pillar trims etc. I don't want to break anything. Any advice or how to would be greatly appreciated. Thankx again.

Yes it does sound like its stripped, but the sunroof still opens and closes quietly. Its just when I try to close the sunshade that it makes that terrible noise. Are there two output gears on the motor one for the glass and the other for the sunshade. I don't know this is my first sunroof repair.

My pano is having a similar problem...neither roof or shade will open or close with switch. Makes lound popping/clicking. Is this a stripped motor? Seems like I saw a post on here about replacing the grommit and fabricating a sturdier mounting bracket. Any help appreciated. My email addy is dleeconner@hotmail.com.

hey do you have instructions on how to repair?
I took the front glass off the panoroof and it appears the passenger side track is off. When I crank everything all the way open with the glass off the arms that hold the the glass don't reach all the way back on the track on the passenger side.
