Hi. Our car is about to reach its ten-year anniversary. I've tried finding more on the web regarding the 300K without success. Might I trouble you for a link to the info you found?

And if I read correctly, the dealer can't get a count of the remaining number of actuations? I'm kind of hoping I can get the dealer to agree to a replacement if we're close to the limit.

When it fails if, under warranty the dealer might help, otherwise just plan to pay for a new system out of pocket.

MBUSA (Canada?) requirement (mandated 2009) when performing routine maintenance on a vehicle with SBC dealers must perform a "Service Life Check" of the SBC Control Unit. Dealer "may" be able to tell you remaining service life. Proactive replacement - MB will not allow it fault code(s) must be stored for approval.

Does anyone know what a "reflash" of the sbc unit does?

For this two year cycle of getting the brake fluid changed, I am deciding to take it to the dealer at almost twice the cost that my indie charged ($120) two years ago. I am doing this because I am getting concerned about the number of cycles on the sbc unit and have asked for a software update to the sbc unit. I received the following from my service advisor:

"The brake fluid exchange runs $230.54 for that vehicle and the reflash is covered under the 10 year warranty extension Mercedes put on that unit so if the reflash does not take we can replace the unit at no cost to you."

I do not know what the purpose of the reflash is. I have my appointment on the 22nd so I will find out more information.

Thanks for the info. If I weren't so busy, I'd sit in the car and just sit there pushing the brake pedal a few/many thousands of time until the warning comes up. Just kidding...

So, after replacing my sbc pump in January of 2013, I just got the Brake, Visit Workshop warning again. OH NO! Can this be? After a year is it possible that this needs replaced again? I sure hope it's under warranty for more than a year. Thoughts?

Yes it is possible. But it could be low brake fluid or need for brake pads depending on what alarm. My guess is pads worn to the sensor and triggered the warning.

Thanks, I thought the warning for brake pads was "Brake Pad Wear". But, I hope you're right. Thanks for responding.

That notice for "visit workshop" could be several possible things. I'm curious about the warranty on the replacement SBC unit FWIW.

Just curious, did you also flush the brake fluids every 2 years as recommended by the manual? I read that this is one of the requirements to have the SBC replaced under warranty.

Looking for a Mercedes expert

Please report the problem to NHTSA.gov, your states Attorney General and Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The warning is illuminated after the fact. This is a dangerous situation. I paid Mercedes to replace my SBC Pump and it caused the Alternator and Battery to go out just 38 miles after I left the dealership.

It's been handled. I'm surprised you haven't noticed,having been a member since '14.
Take a look at the sticky at the top of this forum page. It's the one with SBC and NHTSA in the title...
