Without a service history, they really will not know what to do. I guess they can go by what the FSS says it thinks your car needs, but that relies on the FSS being reset exactly right each time.

F = 6hrs. F does not mean any specific items.

Service F does not really apply to the 2005's. In the https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...s-211-usa.html Sticky at the head of this forum, Post #56 indicates that for the 2005's the FSS was replaced by fixed service intervals. The 05_08maint.pdf in Post #83 lists the services that should be done at those intervals.

Hmm, okay. I'll find out exactly what it says. Thanks for the heads up about that. The car will be out in the Toledo area for the next few years, though, so if anyone does know about good indy shops, I'd be much obliged. Will definitely need them in the future.

While we're at it, maybe some good auto body shops as well that aren't quite so costly as the dealership?

Hmm, it says Service F on the dash. Maybe it should be treated as a 2004?

Edit: Searching for "service F" yielded two great posts:

https://mbworld.org/forums/3680555-post2.html

https://mbworld.org/forums/1902437-post34.html

Anyway, guess it'll either wait till I can get the car back to VA to see my regular guy, which would be in about 5 months, or hopefully there's a good and honest shop near Toledo that won't try to way overcharge my sister. Anyone know any place at all?

Here's what you should look for in a "good indy shop."

The owner is a former Mercedes dealership mechanic.

Failing that, the shop should employ technicians that are former Mercedes dealership mechanics.

The shop should have a STAR machine and access to WIS documentation.

Hopefully the owner will state that they only use genuine Mercedes parts and only use Mobil 1.

This describes the latest indy shop that has opened in my town.

Frankly, it's pretty likely your dealership parts department may advise of local independent shops meeting these requirements, as, obviously, the shop is their customer, too.

You can, of course, contact your local Mercedes club.

The "good indy" you find will know the good body shops.

Thanks! I'll check out your link.

I googled and found two: Warren St Garage and European Autowerkes. Anyone have any experience with those?
