Why is MBZ calling the CLE a Damn Coupe!

"On the IAA 2003 from the 4-tuerigen e-class Coupé a study will stand. In March 2004 the final version in Geneva is then presented. At the end of of 2004 will celebrate the Coupe either under the name CLE or CLS premiere. It consists to 85 % of e-class parts. However it sets off stylistic from the sedan. It is to possess a deeper hood, a flatter roof form and more pronounced wedge forms. The interior is provided still more nobly and with unsealed wood decoration. The Amarturenbrett gets in addition another instrumenting. For the time being e-class is propelled the Coupé (C219) only by V6 and V8 Benzinern. From 218 to 500 HP are enough. Among them also the two 5.5 litres are AMG of engines (one without and one with compressor). Later also the new CDI of models (V6 and V8) is offered."

Dude, take a chill pill, it was called a coupe because of the design. I don't remember the spy shots having the four doors as being so obvious.
On the other hand, the new Mazda RX-8 is a coupe too, and that has four doors, as well, except those two back doors are far less conspicuous.
I would get this **** in a heartbeat. I wonder when it will make it over to this side of the Atlantic.

It's because of the sloping C-pillar. It's not 4 doors that makes a sedan a sedan. It's the conservative shape of the roofline. For example, if a Corvette were to have 4 doors, it would still be a coupe/sports car. It certainly would not be considered as a sedan. It would just be a sports car with 4 doors.

I am interested in 'where' this car will fit in the MB lineup. If its a new addition, it looks like the MB line up will be very crowded. If its a 4 door CL, it would be higher end than the S class. It doesn't fit within the E class with four doors.
All this talk reminds me of what a GREAT car the old (2door) E300 Coupe was!
C pillar aside, it would be a very risky strategy for MB to focus the attention of a new car on a 'is it a coupe or is it a sedan?' It didn't work for the 'is it an SUV, is it a mini van' Pontiac Aztec!
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Merriam-Webster defines each as:
"Sedan: 2- or 4-door automobile seating 4 or more persons and usually having a permanent top."
"Coupe: a 2-door automobile often seating only two persons; also : one with a tight-spaced rear seat."
So the RX8 should actually be defined as a Sedan as is the Mercedes CLK. Go figure!
The CLE looks to much like the Chrysler Concorde:

That CLS is still bugging you huh?
You know how I feel. I am driving the last E class coupe body that was made.
If it has 4 doors its is NOT A COUPE.
If it has a B pillar it is NOT A HARDTOP.
The CE has neither, the CLS has both.
Nuff said.
I have to get over this before January when they are released since I geuss I will have to smile and sell them.
