B- service, 02 sensor, brake fluid etc...$2700

Ok Just dropped my car of at the dealership for my D service 60k (i am told they will perform the B- they are one and the same?) I am told the following need replacement-

Front O2 sensor
Front Pads and rotors
Brake fluid needs to be changed
Coolant needs flushing
Engine and Air filters

Total bill $2700

I have extended warranty on the car- should it cover any of the above items and am i better off going independent?

If it isn't too late to go pick up your car, I would find another shop. The sensor may be covered, but not the rest and that quote is off the chart, unless you forgot some additional services in your list.

D service is approx 4 hour labor, plus parts should be no more than 750.00 (parts -IE FILTERS, OIL and labor) . Brake Fluid 200.00 Front Brakes 400.00 Coolant does not need to be changed until 143,000 miles or 15 years. See this link
http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...07_e_class.pdf

What other service have you done?

Based on your miles (60K) you are either overdue for the 52K checkup or early for the 65K checkup.

I am sure there are other items, but basically an oil change, air filter, cabin filter, and some check this check that. Print out the maintenance book and have them tell you EXACTLY what they are doing for 2700??

You should have asked here first. I would ask them for a break down of the labor and parts. They shouldnt be charging your time for "checking Brakes" as they are replacing them anyway.

Go to an

indie shop. or do it yourself
They are ripping you off.
You need never go to the dealer for service.
$2700
You could diy all of that stuff
for under 5bills.

$200 for brake fluid? who came up with that?

I'd venture a bet that mercedes looks at demographic charts and if you county is in the top 50 list highest income
Says we saw you coming
They saw you coming
now run

No reason not to shop around for other estimates. And no reason not to shop around for a good Indy (on non-warranty maintenance items.) It's no different than shopping around for a doctor or dentist.

p.s., I did a 20k brake fluid flush at the dealer on an AMG E63 and the cost was $152.00

If you needed an O2 sensor your check engine light would be on.

If you needed brakes, you would have a warning on the dash. All Mercedes have a pad wear warning at least for the front brakes, most newer cars for the rear as well.

I'm not sure your car calls for coolant change, MB went to a 15 year/150K mile formula in ~2003 model year.

Brake flush, engine and cabin air filters are legit.

IMHO - these guys are not just overcharging you, they are trying to steal from you.

I had my dealer do a brake fluid flush (ok, I was lazy...) and it was $140. Certainly, not a DIY price, but not a complete rip either.

I am giving them the Dealer benefit of the doubt, 1.5 hours labor plus fluid,

OK so i just called up and the 02 sensor will be covered under waranty. They want to charge me 1100 for the brake job because there is only about 2-3k miles left on the wear and they see it as a safety issue.

I will have them do the 02 sensor and get the break work and other stuff done elsewhere by an indy.

Front pads and

rotors $230 takes a wet behind the ear jr. tech under an hour to pull the rotors and slap in pads. I know they have a mark up,but jeez
Are the rotors still smooth? If they are you can get another use out of them.
Pressure bleed/flush the brakes takes about 15 minutes and a bottle of dot4 fluid.
Not 1.5 hours at $125plus an hour That is a big benefit of the doubt

I think 15 minutes and 1 bottle is a bit of an exaggeration. I know the OP doesn't have SBC but still. On the AMG it's about an hour with 2.5 liters (at $14 a liter from Pep Boys) and the front calipers have two bleeder valves (one inside and one outside.) They have to be done in order RR, LR then RF and LF. And of course any fluid on any painted surfaces will take the finish right off, so that can make it harder to rush.

Most owners who post DIYs say about an hour.

$152 at the dealership is a fair price, imho. It didn't bother me. My time is worth a lot too.

p.s., I don't let a wet behind the ears jr. tech work on my car. My SA has me with the same tech, Robbie, each time. He's AMG certified. No newbie on my car, sorry.

On the brakes, the dealer is anticipating they will need to be done before the next regular service. So they are trying to save you the inconvenience of coming in before the next 10K miles is up.

However, $1100 is highway robbery for a front brake job. I expect they are replacing the rotors...just because they always replace the rotors whether it is needed or not. They must be charging 2 hours of labor and $700 or more for parts.

To the OP, suggest you drive it until the brake warning comes up. Then take it to an independent MB specialist. If they want to replace the rotors, ask them why.
