2005 E320 fuel odor

Suddenly after refueling my 2005 E320 the other day, I noticed a strong fuel odor coming from the driver's side of the vehicle. After dismissing it as nothing since I had just refueled, I noticed it a couple days later. Seems to be coming from the driver's side rear wheel well. Car runs fine and no evidence of fuel leaking anywhere.

What is the cause and is this something that can be repaired for a reasonable cost? (under a couple hundred dollars)

Remove lower seat cushion and check fuel filter for leaks (i.e.: hose connection, seal, etc.) if there is no indication of leakage, worst-case scenario tank may need to be replaced.

Well discussed matter, set Display Options (lower left of page) to beginning to search forum.

Thanks for the tip Konigstiger

Did as instructed and found fuel pooled in the component (pic attached). So now what?
At least you didn't say worst case scenario, the car blows up in the driveway

There's a recall?

I haven't seen that posted in the forums before. Any detailed info?

Not a Recall but rather Service Campaign 2008020001 that applies to MY03-06 211 (E) & 219 (CLS) AMG models only.

I'd like to give my 2 cents, I also own a 1999 Volvo S80 T6, please no snicks or sarcasm, I know I know... but I recently replaced the fuel pump on this dude and I think what has failed is the rubber o ring under the lock. After replacing the fuel pump I had alot of fun trying to get the new rubber o ring to seal. mechanic told me to use dawn diswashing liquid on o ring instead of vasoline. not a lot, but wipe it on the o ring, then place the lock ring back down and tighten the best you can, do not over tighten, once I did this, no more fuel leaks or vapors. Also, after doing this, try only filling tank to half full, and then fill up all the way.. with next fill up and see. could not hurt.
