2003 E500 radio upgrade / ipod integration

I have a 2003 E500 with the HK upgraded radio / 6 CD in-dash deck (no connector in glovebox). I understand from searching in this forum that I cannot install an ipod integration kit with this radio. How difficult/expensive would be to upgrade to an ipod compatible MB radio or navigation system? Any recommendation on what MB parts to look for in Ebay?

Would this upgrade require installation by the MB dealer or is a DIY doable upgrade?

Do you have a COMAND or the audio50 headunit.

With the COMAND unit you can get the MB I-Pod integration kit. But installation requires dismantling the interior of the car. Since you'll need to make a connection from inside the trunk, all the way to the front of the vehicle.

I think it is the Audio 50

Suuper simple, just get a COMAND from any 03 - 07 E Class and it is a plug in swap. The COMAND has a 3 pin Aux jack on the back you can get a cable adapter for.

But then he still can't control the iPod with the steering wheels. He can only use the 3.5 mm jack and has his iPod hanging out of the glove box. Just check your PM I'll explained it there.

True, but he did not mention he wanted to control it. He can get control NOW with one of our kits and use his Audio 50 and have charge, etc. However, he asked about an Aux jack, and he can get that with a quick COMAND swap (the swap takes about 10 minutes)

Do you happen to know the part number for the AUX cable?

But I sorta new

Wampa, you can use any 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable to connect your iPod and other players to the connector inside your glove box. No need to buy it from MB for extra $$$ just to see MB and the Star imprinted on it!

Thanks to all for the inputs. Ipod through Aux would work for now. Steering wheel control would be nice but too $$$ at this time.

As per the Command HU, are all 03-07 the same model?. I have an option for one out of an 07 CLS that is advertised as NTG1. I'm also looking for MP3 playback

They are the same. An 07 would do MP3 playback.
