No sound from alarm/beeps
No sound from alarm/beeps
I no longer hear the car beep when locking/unlocking, and the panic alarm is silent as well...any ideas? I did have an issue with a wire harness that was replaced at the dealers but I have not heard the alarm since--check with them?
I belive the chirp for locking and unlocking is a selectable feature. As for the alarm, we recently had a issue where the car would not lock and the lights stayed on. The cause was eventually traced to the "siren". It is a pretty reasonable part. I would have put it on myself and saved the $299 labor but
a. The dealer had already suckered me by ordering a new key that was unnecessary
b. I did not know where the siren was located on the chasis.
c. It cost $385 to find out that the key was not the problem and $125 of that was applied to the siren labor.
I could never find the siren part number or a mailorder house that sold them. May be a dealer only part.

The chrip comes from the alarm system's horn not the regular horn btw.

I have 2006 W211 E55.
One day, out of nowhere, my alarm quits working (no chirp) when locking or unlocking the car with a remote. Siren (panic button) is not working as well.
Car locked and unlocked with remote until this morning. Locked the car last night, morning comes, can't unlock the car with a remote (no flashing lights). Car does not respond to any buttons on a remote.
The red LED light flashes when buttons are pressed. Infrared sensor lights up when buttons are pressed (phone camera picks up infrared). Changed batteries=nothing changed. Unlocked the car with the key, it set off the alarm system (no sound though), hazards started flashing.
Why wouldn't remote work all of a sudden? Suggestions?
Anyone has fuse location/number that I should be checking?
Thank you!

update:Connected my iCarSoft scanner and found a couple of codes:
Rear SAM:9077 Communication with component Radio signal reception of the central locking system interrupted
9059 Communication with component B33 (ATA inclination sensor) interrupted9078 communication with component H3 (alarm signal horn) interrupted
time to start digging around...
Update:
after hitting a few forums, I've decided to purchase a new alarm unit. Found one for $140 at a dealer. Opened up the drivers side front wheel well and located the old unit. After removing the old one, I was simply amazed at the stupid decision of putting a drain tube just an inch above and just slightly to the side of the electrical component. No wonder why these things go out! Water and electric parts don't belong together.
Installed the new unit. Ran an extension from the existing drain tube, so that it is draining BELOW the alarm. Secured it with a zip tie and now everything is better than from factory.
It is amazing to me how smart people can be so disconnected from functionality of the real world.
One thing left to do is to run the scanner and see what it says.
