hey need some help anyone?

I just bought my 1st e320 4matic 2004 and i was wondering why isn't the gps working. I have the disk and there is a 6 disc changed in the console and 1 on top of the screen. i was wondering if the car came with gps built in the screen area or would i need to buy the receiver. i believe the error code was navi not available.

also does the car come with bluetooth? and is it possible to watch dvds from the screen?

You don't say where you are located. If you are in North America, the car does not play DVD movies, but can. Nav can be added, as well as bluetooth. We have all the things you would need or want on our site at Cartronics.com

You don't want it

W211 gps is very bad. You do not want it. Spend $100 to $200 on a Garmin or TomTom unit and you will be far ahead. My 2006 has the MB gps...it is simply a joke.

When you say "I have the disk" did you mean you have the DVD Navigation Disk? Do you have the DVD Drive in the trunk?

The error you see showed up on mine when A) the navi dvd was not in the drive, and B) when the drive could not read the DVD (i'm using a burnt copy)

Yeah, the large screen unit in the dash is NOT a Navigation unit. The slot in the unit is just a single CD slot. (The disk unit behind the wooden door is a multi cd unit.)

Putting a Map CD into the head unit does not give you GPS. I wouldn't invest the couple of grand to install an MB NAV unit in your older car. The Garmin will give you real time Traffic and is a whole lot easier to use than the MB unit. In real life, you don't use NAV all that often anyway.

Its probably a blessing.. The Nav SUCKS!! BIG TIME. Even the cheapest portable GPS will spank the pants out of the factory Nav.. Good thing the rest of the car makes up for it.

But yes, no DVD Drive in the trunk = no GPS.

Not sure why everyone bashes the built in NAV - considering it is 7 years old (or 70 years old in computer years) I have never had it let me down when using it. No, it doesn't do traffic, but it seems to do just fine every time I have needed it.

works fine for me too, but it could be quite a bit more user friendly.

The only real beef I have with it is the fact that you cant put an exact street address. It only allows you to enter a range of numbers, the street, then the city/state... When you are at the destination, it jus says "Your destination is nearby.." In my '07 GL450, the Nav is still not the best, but its very usable and gets the job done - No complaints.

I cant figure out why the W211, as sophisticated as it is in everything else, skimped on a very important function of the NAV system - getting you exactly to where you need to go..

Mercedes seems to lean toward more of an elegant interior vs flashy. Regarding electronics/NAV, I am sure the Acura system in the TL starting in 2004 probably does more, but overall the COMAND system gets the job done. Supposedly Mercedes will go to a module-based system that can be upgraded with ease and use the existing screen in the car. Perhaps we will see this in some 2012 models.

The GL unit I think is made by Alpine and also uses different maps, but has the same interface/appearance as the W211 Becker unit.
