Auto ventilation

Summer is upon us in Houston...and I was wondering if anyone can shed some light in this area. Is there a "feature" on the new E's (perhaps in the COMMAND NAV setup somewhere for those OUTSIDE the US).. that allows you to program the car to ventilate itself at a given time. I know the current 5 series does... well, the 540i does, but not the lower 5's. Thought it was neat...

Today it got into the mid 90's and I went out twice in the late afternoon before leaving work and activated the REST feature. Seemed to help. But wondered if there was a "auto" feature for this.

Thanks

i dont think so, rest is the only thing i can think of, wouldnt it drain your battery though, like off of the 5-series, if you just left it on for 1-2 hours?

I think what you are referring to is the solar panel option. If you have the panorama roof, you can order the solar panel and it powers fans in the car to evacuate the hot air. I have it and it does provide a noticeable difference.(we have had many mid 90's days already) There is nothing to set. It is always on. I am not aware of any ventilation without this option.

There is a feature that activates the AVS when you open the windows / sun roof with the key. I think its on page 106 ?? of the manual. Not the same thing, but may help:-)

No, I guess I'm not missing anything. It's not the AVS or the Panorama Solar Panels. I knew about those. But in the 5 series (the 540), you could program the car computer via the Information Center to ventilate the rest like the REST feature.

Sort of like setting an alarm clock.. only instead of waking you up... it activates the REST feature to ventilate the car. I didn't knoe if the COMMAND system had an enchancement that allowed this.

Thanks
Peter

i was a bmw rep previously, the feature was a part of the OBC(on board computer) with the bimmer, there is no such thing in a benz. the REST button is all you have to work with.

I thought REST is let your car get warmer intead of cooler. REST provides you a warm air when your engine is off. both bmw and mb have this feature.

the only way to cool it down in w211 is using solar panel fan but in mid 90's, nothing really can do. (you can install a remote to start your engine 3 to 5 minutes earlier before you get in -- air con is always on in w211 unless you turn it off.)

Thanks guys. Damian hit it right on the head about the OBC. Oh well, I thought perhaps the Benz had something similar too.. esp with the COMAND system.

=(
