Power door lock won't lock E320 (W211)

What might be wrong with my power door lock (central locking system in 2003 Mercedes E320)?

The back door (port side/driver's side) will NOT lock if I try to lock it from the inside. In the Mercedes E320, this is done by 1)pushing the lock doors button on the dashboard or 2) just waiting for about 1 minute after the ignition is started (doors lock with no further action by the driver). The door lock (looks like a stick and goes up and down--- down is the locked position) will go up and down rapidly but stop in the UP position.

The only way to lock that door is get out of the car and to use the electronic key fob (pushing "lock" on the electronic key). The other 3 door locks work fine.

What is going on? Can I fix it myself? Can you recommend a reliable, cheap(er) repair shop in San Francisco CA?Thanks.

I have the same problem with my 06 E320CDI. Lock button goes up and down when you try to lock it. I took the plunger off (just unscrew it) and took some WD40 and wiped the plunger on the outside then put a little in the hole where the treads are- filled almost to the top. Then screwed the plunger back on the rod and gave it a try. It has been working flawlessly for a little over a week. Only thing I can imagine is the plunger was causing some slight binding or resistance and the WD40 fixed it.

The rubber boot that is sleeved over the door locking rod has collapsed and then provides resistance causing the rapid up/down movements. The WD40 may have lubed the rubber enough for it to work but a permanent fix is to pull the door panel and straighten out the boot. It is an easy DIY.

That make sense. Thanks for the info. Wonder if a silicone spray may work better. Also wonder if the boot can straightened with out taking the whole door panel off?

I've had to do this on two different doors and once you see it, you will understand why the boot will not straighten and "stand up" on it's own.

Bulletin covers repair but if repair is unsuccessful, actuator will need replacement. Link posted references this together with covering replacement if needed. For those under warranty mention DTB P-B-72.10/238b, for DIY PM your email address and I will send a copy.

I had a dealership do this for about $650 (parts, labor, tax) 3 years ago! If you can do it yourself I think you save a good 50% of that.

Old thread I know...

For anyone who gets this problem 2 things you should know:

1. Great temporary fix is to wrap the lock pin in a little electrical tape, the friction will make it work like new.

2. Apparently the spring is available for sale from ebay at around $30.

Needless to say what a disappointment in MB quality...

But Toyota the worlds biggest car manuf. has an issue with stuck gas paddles!!! Woohoo!!! More power to them! LMFAO!!!

One of my fellow co-worker a police officer crashed with his entire family with over 124 mph and everyone died. His 911 call is on the Internet where he tries to get help from dispatch!!! Pathetic to bash about a door pin issue!!!

Sorry for venting!

Hi, I have. 2006 3e350 with a driver door lock problem. I got the actuator, and got the panel off. But I can't get the actuator off. Is it connected to the door lock cylinder via the small torx screw behind the weatherstripping? How do I get it off? Can you send me DIY instructions or a diagram?
