W211 Message: Vehicle rising... Suspension?

I have a 2006 E500 (W211) and when I started the car last night a message came on the screen "Vehicle rising. Please wait." With a pic of a car with an upward facing arrow. I have an extended warranty so I think that I am covered for suspension problems. I was wondering what is typically replaced and what is repaired? I have 35,112 miles on the car and I am not sure whether I could expect this to occur again.

Thank you.

what makes you think it is a problem? It may be a normal message that the Airmatic sends when inflating.

Have you checked your owners manual to see what it has to say? Here is what mine has to say.

Vehicle rising
Please wait briefly
The vehicle level is too low.
 Do not drive off.
The Airmatic* has not yet adjusted the vehicle
level to the necessary height required
for driving.

Wait until the message disappears from
the multifunction display.

You may then drive off.

Could it be that you accidentally pressed the button to raise the car while starting it? It is not that hard to press it. Also if it is still in the raised position, move it back to normal , or Airmaic I or II for better handling.

I use the raised setting for snow, steep inclines, or really bad roads. In all three cases I also then drive slower than normal.

Am I to take from this that the suspension buttons should be pressed when the car is still? I thought the suspension settings can be adjusted while driving.

No, you're correct. ADSII can be adjusted anytime. So can the vehicle raise, although I usally stop and let it raise. Primarily because I want to be sure it's lifted up completely before I go over the driveway curb or whatever obstacle I'm trying to avoid hitting.

The reason it says "wait" can mean there is an issue of some kind. If you raise the vehicle and everything is working properly, then it simply says "vehicle rising." But if it says "vehicle rising/please wait" it means the car is too low to drive off. Something caused it to lower itself. When you shut the car off and it's in C mode, the car will lower itself down within 60 seconds. It's possible the OP got in the car and turned it on so fast and quickly pulled out, that the system didn't have time to rise sufficiently. But I've never seen that happen. Normally it pumps back up very quickly after sitting.

To the OP: if it happens again, I'd watch it. It could will be that the compressor isn't pumping properly and/or quickly.

Sorry for not including a vital piece of information. The front end of the vehicle was so low it was practically touching the front tires. The vehicle was never able to raise itself. I might have unintentionally touched a button upon starting the vehicle; however, it never corrected itself. Luckily, I have the extended warranty and it has been towed to the service dept at my local MB dealer. The tow driver said that he has seen this a lot. I have heard from friends that this is fairly common among '03 - '06 E class. I think that the airmatic suspension was changed in '07.

I was wondering whether anyone has had any experience with this. After it is repaired, would I expect this to happen again in another 30k miles or so?

Thanks for all of your replies.

Your dealer will explain it all to you. You either had a leaking strut and/or bad pump. Pumps will burn out eventually if you drive on a leaking strut. Do some searching here on "Airmatic" and also Google. You'll get plenty of info. More than you'll want to know.
