I'm looking for a more stylish rear wiper for my wagon

The Mercedes stylists must have been pretty tired by the time they got around to styling a wiper arm for the W211 wagon, because I'm noticing just about every SUV I see on the road has a more sleek and smooth looking rear wiper arm. So, I'm wondering what the options are for swapping the rear wiper arm with a better-looking one.

Here's a photo of mine and photos of some 2012 Mercedes models that have rear wipers, all of which are much more attractive. Note that the wiper blade (not the arm) on mine is not OEM -- which looks even more dorky.

The obvious solution seems to be to just buy a W212 rear wiper arm and swap them (assuming the W212 arm isn't longer). Any thoughts?

I'd look into just getting the OEM one. Mine's tasteful and looks good, a lot like the others you showed on other cars.

The angle from which you took the photo of yours makes it look better. The first two photos in my post are of the OEM arm with a smoother aftermarket blade. I think the best thing would be to see if thw W212 wiper arm + blade is the same length and do a swap if it is.

Yeah, I went out and looked at mine again after work.

Seems to me that the deciding factor is the knurled knob that the arm attaches to. I don't know how standard those are, but if they're close you could probably grab a wiper from another car/SUV. The one on my wife's Lincoln MKX is pretty slick-looking.

I'm not overly concerned with that particular bit of the car, but agree that you ought to change yours. The main difference between yours and mine isn't the arm but the blade. The metal-framed one seems to look better than the newfanlged type. That part is $20 or less at most parts stores, so it's worth a try to see if it looks better.

Any arm will fit provided the spline is the same. My OEM one looks/operates fine but if I ever find a more "sleek" looking unit from another car (Cayenne?) I may attempt a retrofit.

Yeah, "spline" = "knurled knob that the arm attaches to"

Vocabulary FTW!

Actually, I don't think one from a Cayenne will fit. It has a slight kink to it so when it wipes, it will go off the glass and onto the bodywork. I noticed that Cayennes, Audi Q5s and Q7s and BMW X5s, all seem to have the same wiper arm. Another consideration is the wiper arm length. All the SUVs seem to have very short rear windows, so their rear wiper arms have to be short as well. I went over the MB dealer storage lot today, and measured the ML rear wiper at 16" and the GL arm at only 15" whereas the E350 arm is 20" long. The shorter ones will of course, result in a reduced coverage area. They didn't have any W212 wagons, so I didn't get to measure that.

I found it!

Here's my new sleeker rear wiper arm and wiper. The size is perfect as it clears the spoiler by about a 1/2".

It's a Porsche Panamera rear window wiper arm (# 970-628-169-00), wiper blade (# 970-628-189-00) and cap (#970-628-122-00). I paid $67 total with a PCA discount. It's been in use nearly two years now and no issues. Panamera arm is technically not splined, but it slides onto the wiper drive shaft tightly and stays put. I haven't removed mine since I installed it, so I don't know how hard it might be to remove once it's on.

That looks really smooth and clean . I really want to keep everything OEM even down to the wipers so I'm on the fence about this even though it's such a small mod.

What's the MB part number to the rear wiper blade? does anyone know?

I would highly recommend the Porsche Panamera blade. It looks so much better.
