I thought it's primarily the fuel sender units and not the fuel tank itself.

The notice I saw (posed on line) said the tank and all fuel system components.

I know it says tank and all fuel components attached to it but what we have been seeing here is that most people have the leak not directly at the tank but rather on top of the fuel sender unit bc that's where the gasoline collects. Just like on my E55 as you can see in the picture.

My guess is most dealers are going to do they whole thing, for both profit and liability reasons.

I don't care what they replace as long as they fix the terrible gas smell after full tank fill up and the possible safety risks that come along with it. Today is the day, finally!!

The 04 Wagon is going in on Friday to get this done. Dealer was easy to work with... we waited a bit to make sure all dealers were up to speed and I think this paid off. My biggest concern right now is the 2015 loaner that they will be giving the Wife to drive while they do the replacement. I'd hate for the replacement of the gas tank turn into a new car purchase.

Because this wasn't all clear up until recently I got my E55 fixed by an independent shop after MB of SD wanted almost $1800 for the fix. I can tell you that all he replaced was the fuel sender/pump on mine and it's all good now. He didn't need to replace the seals bc I did that on my own bc I thought that was the problem a few months ago when it all started. I asked about the tank, too and he inspected it and told me it wasn't needed. It also helps that he is a close friend and I can be assured there are no up sells or unnecessary repairs and replacements with him.

Now all its left is to back to a different dealership to provide all the documentation needed to get reimbursed by MBUSA for this mess.

On a side note he also discovered that one of the hoses connecting both fuel pumps was disconnected and caused the engine to stutter as soon as the reserve level was reached and I floored it. What a mess sometimes with the car. I thought the feeder bowl was broken or leaking the entire time but a lose hose? Thank you MB of SD for not doing your job and quality assurance last time the car was in for fuel tank repairs (while with the previous owner). This dealership has disappointed me every single time in 8 years with 2 cars I own.

It's possible fuel float arm which measures fuel level is snagged in wires inside tank and needs to be untangled. Dealer should take care of that, I wouldn't wait on this!

Ok guys I have an appointment this Saturday, on the 14th at Penske Mercedes West Covina. They told me that they will diagnose my E350 at no charge and they will repair it if necessary under extended warranty. I just hope that they lend me a loaner car because I know for sure my car would spend days at Penske MB.

I also asked them about w211 AMGs, they said that they are not doing it at the moment. I guess my E55 has to wait.

I would never ever go back to any Penske dealerships. They are amongst the most ruthless greed driven ones. I could write a book about them what they ****ed up, repaired the wrong way, damaged good parts, replaced wrong parts, and forgot to check their own work. If you can look for a privately owned dealership (not talking about Indy shop, but real dealership). They are cheaper and more customer oriented without the upselling and the like.

Got mine repaired at the dealership for no charge. They replaced only the fuel sender unit and it seems the problem has either been completely fixed or greatly improved. I'll have to see after I fill up completely again.

How long did they take to repair your car? Did they provide you a loaner car? I wanted to drive the new w205 C as a loaner car to have a blast driving it like everyone else in here. Hehe

Dropped the car off at 8am and it was done by about 3pm. They offered to provide me a loaner car then found out I was 19 and retracted that offer lol, so I am bound to their shuttle service to get to work or university whenever I have to take the car in lol. I wanted to as well the W205 looks badass. Can't complain, though, as ultimately MB of Littleton was very cooperative and helpful. Detailed the car actually very well when I brought it in filthy (can't help snow the day before). Left me with a full tank of gas on the way out.

Well... so much for waiting. No tanks. They gave us a loaner and said it might be a week. Very confused as to why they didn't make sure they had the tank when we made an appointment a week ago. The 2015 C loaner is a nice car and there are plenty of things to like about it but it is too small. I guess that's a good thing because now I don't have to worry about the tank replacement turning into a new car purchase!

The extended warranty is two parts, either the pumps or the tank. Dealers will not stock a part let alone an expensive part and they will not just order parts to make sure that everything is there when you show up. It costs money.

Took mine in today and they found the leak. SA informed me they'd replace the entire tank. He also told me I'd have to wait a week to 10 days, as parts were coming from Germany.

No loaner, saying it was not part of the warranty coverage. I am thinking of calling MBUSA and asking them if this is so. Does anyone think I could get a loaner by contacting them!

To be honest, when I bought my first MB in 2008 all work was done and a FREE loaner car was provided by MB (different dealerships, but all were free). Then they started charging $25 and no fuel fees or that I had to return it with fuel at the same level I received it. Now they charge $35 to $50 and mandate to refill it to the level I picked it up or they will charge up to $7/gal. Bc of all the horror stories I keep posting in forums I have not been back for actual repairs or the like since 2009. I drop it off at a friend who has a MB certified repair shop for 30+ years. He bought several 203/211 as loaners over the years as well as some very old and exotic ones. No charges, no gas fill ups. All free for his customers. Only drawback: he doesn't hire Mexicans to wash and vacuum his customers cars. But I can care less about it. He charges $90/hr vs 120-150/hr and being a friend he charges me about $55/hr. What I can't do myself he does for me and I'm quite happy with his service. On the flip side he recommends his customers to me for retrofits and other Star Diagnosis work that needs to be done which he doesn't do.

All in all I would say try and call them but don't get your hopes up.

Tell them you need the car back to keep your job, and will be driving it while smoking until they replace the tank.

The loaner should be available shortly.

Just got done talking with MBUSA. Got told they had no say in what dealers do, and it was up to each individual franchisee.

When I called dealer to ask to have car back until parts came in, he declined saying they would not release car until it was repaired, due to liability issues! Go Figure!

Well, you could call the police and explain they are holding your property.
