Exclamation You guys are making me nervous

I currently have a a 2001 E320 and have had only two problems with the car and that was the AC and had Catylitic Converter replaced. That was it! I am however tempted to get the new E but have heard horror stories about it. Is it wise for me to wait for 04? I checked Edmunds and they're all talking lawsuits.. so what is the deal with this car is it worth it?? Or should I keep my trouble free 01? I know the Navigation issue is Big talk on this board but not really concerned with it since I always know where I'm going, (joke)

IMO, the new E is one of the best cars on the market. Some have problems but mine has been trouble free. It's great looking, fast and handles well. To me it's the best in it's class. The nav issue has been resolved too. If you are looking for a luxury sports sedan, look no further. Buy the E. You won't regret it.

I had almost every problem that has been described, but I just left it in the shop for a month (while I took a C-Series loaner) and it has been perfect since then. Not even a hiccup. I would not hesitate to commit to a new E-Series. You have to think about the number sold vs. the percent of those sold that would actually be active in any sort of internet forum. I have an August 2002 build ... one of the first. I kinda expected a few kinks. Remember, it's not just a Mercedes, it's a piece of machinery. It's subject to inperfections. Drive it, like it, buy it. Otherwise, there's quite an array of other temptations available.

Not one dealership visit necessary for me in 6 months of ownership. I just hope the NAV replacement car does as well.

Talking Still the best

I seem to have more problems than most - but I wouldn't swap the car for any of the competition.

I am delighted with the car and put issues down to the early build date - September 2002.

I have had a few issues... but nothing I would call major. Overall the car is simple AMAZING. Even if I bring it in every 6-8 months for a minor glitch or something.. it is still worth it.

So far after my "audio" issues in march.. I've been fine.. with zero problems (knock on wood). ;-)

Thumbs up THanks for the Info

I have been tracking everything you guys have said about New E and trust you're opinions , so it looks like I will be trading it in and getting a new Black/Charcoal E320. My dealer has about 65 of them on the lot. I should be able to get a good deal. hanks again for all the input. It has been quite valuable over the past few months, I LOVE THIS BOARD !!! I'll tell you how it all ends up!

Sure, I've had some problems, but they've all been resolved VERY satisfactorily by my dealer. I'm amazed at the fact that the dealer hasn't tried to tell me "they all do that" or such- I'm so used to that from other makes. But, that said, given how late it is in the year, I'd probably wait and get a 2004 if I were in the market now (especially if I wanted an E500- I'd like to get my hands on the new 7 speed tranny).

First year models always have bugs. This is true of Mercedes just as it is any car. Yes, there has been some issues. But if you read on-line forums, you will get a skewed version of reality. Most of the people who post, especially on Edmunds, are those that have had a lot of problems. The majority of owners, who have had no problems or very minor ones, never post anything.

I bought my E320 about 5 months ago and its been a champ. I had the pulling to the right issue and the radio issue, but they were quickly and easily resolved by my dealership. Since then, Ive had error free car.

A guy I know just got a Jaguar S-type. He's had it in the shop 10 times. And this is a model that's been out a while. Another guy I know just got a BMW 745, and its been in the shop 6 times. Mercedes is certainly not alone.

Aplato said it the best. This is why I would never buy a 1st year model of a new vehicle. Give the manufactues a model year to work out the bugs and you will be very happy.

which dealer?

the one in ft. lauderdale or the one in Miami. cuz i ordered my car from the one in Miami. i went to the dealer here in Ft. laud but just to test drive the E again cuz i already had my dealer in Miami, but i did see a bunch of E's in the parking lot at the ft. laud one, but not that many black ones. so i think he was just saying it as a figure of speech.

i can't imagine that black cars with dark colored interiors are popular in Florida, it must be like jumping into a barbecue.
