Remote tuning?

Any w211 non-AMG owner's have experience with a remote ECU tune using a cable, laptop and remote software?

I'm considering getting a remote tune for my stock 2004 E500 through Eurocharged. I'm also researching this possibility with OETuning and Speedriven - although I've read some reviews from members regarding the latter.

Eurocharge says I should expect similar tuning results to their in-house tuning. In-house tuning means my stock 04 E500 would approximately go from 302 hp to 339 hp / 339 ft lb to 362 ft lb.

Anyone with experience care to weigh-in regarding the benefit value of a remote ecu tune?

I was considering doing this through eurocharged. As long as you have a reliable internet connection that's not going to drop out in the middle of tuning you should be fine. It's not as accurate I'd imagine as you'd be getting a 'base' map that works for all cars with no real tweaks to environmental conditions or your particular car.

uh, not quite accurate.

ALL tunes are based on your current mods on the car, the elevation, gas in your area of the world etc.

I got my 06 e500 tuned from Eurocharged recently and have been pleased. Car seems to run stronger. It's worth it for the removal of speed limiter and raising the rpm limiter.

I recently had some work done at the dealer. Tranny and motor mounts and rear main seal. The car feels a little different now. How can I be sure they didn't return the ecu to stock?

yes, however, since you are not actually there with the car you can't say that it's truly based on each individual car and how it performs. Cylinder compressions vary, maintenance varies, and without having the car physically in front of you and on a dyno, there's no possible way of accounting for this, period.

I'll give you the elevation and gas points, but it's still not a truly individualized tune.

Guys, I have logged over 70K miles on my Eurocharged tuned E500. The car has never even had one hiccup. Ever.

Just a thought - since the $105 USB to OBDII cable is only needed once for the tuning - have you considered loaning or renting them out? Or, does the cable have other uses after the remote tune?

Thanks,
Mike

most people keep them as we offer FREE retunes for as long as you own the car!

go back to stock, get reflashed from the dealer, more mods etc!

Looking forward to a remote tune, just need to find someone with a Windows platform laptop. Nothing for the MAC OS faithful yet.

You can run a Windows VM inside your MAC. I do, using Parallels, or you can just Boot Camp it, and boot right into Windows. No problemo.....

Assuming you have an Intel based MAC of course, and not one of the older RISC based ones...

Completely didn't even think of that idea. I have a MBA Ultimate i7. I'm assuming that when running Parallels, do I still need a version of Windows OS?

Ever perform a remote tune using a MAC + Parallels?

Correct, you still need a version of Windows. If you're going to go that route, just dual boot the thing using Bootcamp (included in OSx), and boot into Windows direct.

Parallels has it's quirks.

ugh, i'd be wary of a VM for this purpose. Easier, cheaper, and more stable to bootcamp into the windows OS for the tune.

is the remote cable just a standard usb to obd2 connector and they add software to your computer to run the flash remotely?

not a standard cable, it has a chip in it.

And yes, we install our own software on the laptop then tune the car. We remove our software when complete

you just want to read codes? Any reader such as the ones at autozone will do that. If you actually want to read faults in the car modules you need to purchase a mercedes star system.
